Quantum Computing Intern

Join American Family Insurance as a Quantum Computing Intern to develop quantum algorithms and work on impactful projects in a summer program. Your Role Here’s what you will be doing: • Develop an understanding of the organization’s business environments, corporate culture, and structure to support work initiatives. • Open to and support new ideas, systems, and procedures; generate creative ideas and actions in response to changing situations. • Build and develop quantum computing applications to address business problems. • Assist with data cleaning and preparation. • Present project results to management and/or department personnel. • Stay up to date on current quantum computing trends through research and seminars. • Work closely with 1-2 mentors to implement Proof-of-Concept quantum computing projects. • Implement quantum algorithms to solve real-world business problems and/or conduct quantum computing research, potentially leading to publication or conference proceedings. • Other duties as assigned. About You The company is looking for candidates who meet the following requirements: • Must be a student at an accredited 4-year college or university during the internship, graduating August 2026 or later. • Pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree. • Major/program must align with the internship role. • Solid understanding of Hybrid Quantum-classical methods (e.g., VQAs) and Quantum Machine Learning. • Experience with Python. • Experience with SKLearn. • Experience with Cirq, Qiskit, Tensor Networks for quantum computing, or similar frameworks. • Experience with AWS and/or GCP is helpful. Compensation & Benefits • Compensation range: $25.00 to $39.00 per hour. • Interns may be eligible for a one-time hiring bonus to assist with housing costs depending on proximity to an AmFam office location. • Access to comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and wellbeing benefits (note: interns and contingent workers are not eligible for American Family Insurance Group benefits). • Competitive 401(k) contribution, pension plan, annual incentive, 9 paid holidays, and paid time off program (23 days accrued annually for full-time employees). • Student loan repayment program and paid-family leave available for employees and their families.
