Quality Assurance Engineer II (Microservices)

Job Description The Quality Assurance Engineer II works on a team focused on Ignition-adjacent microservices projects. Under the guidance of a Quality Assurance Group Manager, they are responsible for developing, maintaining and executing automated and manual tests, and for reporting on the progress and status of test activities. This includes validating and verifying new and improved features with a variety of testing tools and approaches, including both automated and manual execution against both the back-end (API) and front-end (Web), as well as validating database schemas and changes. Additionally, the Quality Assurance Engineer II is directly involved in building and testing production versions of the system. This is a full-time position with remote, hybrid and on-site opportunities available. Responsibilities Validating low to medium complexity bugs and featuresOccasionally working on higher complexity issues with guidance from Senior Quality Assurance Engineers on medium to high complexity issues, where appropriateBuilding and maintaining automated test frameworks in all testing phases of service deployment process, encompassing both the back-end and front-end (e.g. contract, functional, performance, end-to-end, and UI testing)Performing PR reviews of automated tests submitted by other team membersAssisting with the monitoring of nightly automation run reportsParticipating in testing contributions within the development lifecycle (e.g. validating bug fixes, conducting regression testing, and manual/automated test case development)Collaborating with the Development team in the implementation phase to ensure proper test coverage for a given issue or featureDesigning, developing, and executing test plans that cover all functional requirements, with the ability to determine applicable test strategies for low to medium complexity bugs and features, in team-relevant product areasDemonstrating sufficient proficiency in all of the given team's product areas, and adequately testing all areasDemonstrating autonomy by maintaining progress on assigned tasks and leveraging resources effectively, and prioritizing unowned or undesirable work to help with team velocityCollaborating and effectively utilize senior resources to improve personal technical skillsMaintaining a proficient understanding of the company, our primary software deliverable and its purpose (Ignition), and our customer baseCollaborating with Developers and Product Managers to clarify requirements and provide feedback on functionality, usability, and performanceIdentifying, documenting, and tracking defects using issue tracking tools, ensuring clear communication and resolution processesStaying up to date with industry trends, tools, and technologies to continually enhance testing strategies Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or at least 4 years’ of experience in a related fieldAt least 2 years of experience in a software testing roleExperience with microservice architectures (REST APIs, messaging systems, pub/sub architectures)Cloud Platforms (AWS preferred)Programming proficiency with modern test automation languages (Python, JavaScript)Experience with architecting and implementing modern web UI testing principles (Page Object Model, element locators, proper O-O abstraction) using frameworks such as pytest, Selenium, Playwright, CypressExperience integrating automated test phases into CI/CD pipelinesExposure to API testing tools such as Postman and Rest AssuredFamiliarity with agile methodologies such as SCRUMFamiliarity with source control management systems such as GithubFamiliarity with SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB)Experience with bug tracking systemsFamiliarity with common network protocol stacks (HTTP, IP)Skills not required, but a plus:Experience with specific API contract testing tools (Pact, Portman)Experience using containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)Performance/Load testing experience in a cloud-based microservices architecture (e.g. K6 or related tool)Experience with Maven and Gradle build toolsExperience testing with all major OS platforms, including Windows, Linux, and macOSFamiliarity with the manufacturing industry and SCADA software PayBased on the Sacramento region, the new hires minimum and maximum target salary for this role is $115k - $125k.Inductive Automation’s ranges are market-driven and set to allow for flexibility. Although it is not typical for an individual to start at the top end of the range for the position, compensation decisions are dependent on: the facts and circumstances of each case, work location, job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training; and other business and organizational needs.
