Position Summary The Public Programs Coordinator, (PPC) will develop and deliver dynamic, high-quality programming, conservation science and advocacy programs and contribute to community engagement efforts. The PPC will support the Education Manager in implementing community conservation programs that align with and provide opportunities for participants to take actions that help achieve Audubon's strategic plan milestones for Habitat, Climate, Policy, and Community Building. Compensation: $25.50 - $27.00 / hour Additional Job Description Essential Functions • Work with Education Manager to develop and implement conservation education programs that advance the understanding and conservation of birds, other wildlife and their habitats. • Teach For the Birds Series of lessons to Long Island school districts. • Develop, coordinate, and Lead Teen and Youth Conservation Programming throughout Long Island, New York. Travel is required with reimbursement available. • Coordinate and teach onsite, offsite, and special event public programs for children and adults. • Spring and Summer Camp coordination. Lead daily activities and support seasonal staff to create and implement camp curriculum for children 6-12 years old. During summer months (late June-August), Serve as camp coordinator Monday- Thursday (8am-4pm). • Support in recruitment, training, and coordinating center volunteers. • Assist in coastal stewardship programs including, shorebird conservation lessons, kids sign contest coordination, Be a Good Egg outreach and coastal stewardship events. • Provide office support such as programmatic communications and social media posting, newsletter support, mailings etc. • Attend and contribute to education and staff meetings, network with other educators and other staff within Audubon. • Assist with Audubon staff to ensure that equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging principles are incorporated and followed in all aspects of our work. • Collaborate with colleagues across the Americas including through joint planning and execution of shared priorities. • Other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Experience: • Bachelor's degree is preferred at least 2 years' experience, is a plus. • Experience in a conservation education setting including teaching, community outreach experience and curriculum development. Similar combination of education and experience will also be considered. • Bilingual ability (Spanish/English) preferred. • Proven abilities in designing, writing, and evaluating environmental education curricula, lesson plans and activities. • Proven skills teaching in formal and informal settings to a variety of audiences. • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently in a fast-paced environment, all while exercising discretion and personal judgement. • Ability to think strategically and creatively, while managing multiple tasks, meeting deadlines and operating in a dynamic, fast paced environment. • Must be people oriented, have a team-focused attitude, and the ability to professionally represent Audubon to the public. • Demonstrated personal and professional commitment to and experience in advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging. • Commitment to Audubon's organizational values of care, collaboration, change, integrity, impact, and innovation. • Comfort and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, terrains and physically lift to 50 lbs. with or without accommodation. • Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends, and have reliable transportation to travel to and from schools with teaching materials. • Must have a valid driver license. • Excellent organizational skills, written and verbal communication skills, and computer literacy, particularly word-processing, e-mail, and database functions required. Proficient in Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.
