About the role As a Principal NodeJS Backend Developer , you will act as a technical leader and strategic partner within our Engineering organization. Beyond building high-quality backend services, you will set technical direction, mentor engineers across levels, and influence cross-team decisions that shape the scalability, reliability, and performance of Voicemod’s platform. This is not just a coding role, it’s about amplifying our engineering impact , guiding architectural evolution, and ensuring backend initiatives remain aligned with company-wide goals.. You’ll work closely with Product, Data, and DevOps, helping us build systems that support millions of users while keeping speed, quality, and security at the core. Our Tech Stack: Express - Node.js MongoDB Google Cloud Platform Kubernetes GitLab What you'll do Define and evolve backend architecture and guidelines to ensure scalability, resilience, and long-term maintainability. Act as a technical reference for backend and cross-functional teams, reviewing designs, sharing best practices, and mentoring engineers from junior to staff levels. Influence engineering strategy by connecting technical decisions with business impact, balancing speed of delivery with quality and risk management. Lead complex initiatives such as global service scalability, multi-region deployments, and system performance optimization . Collaborate with security and data teams to drive standards in privacy, compliance, and data protection . Represent backend engineering in company-wide technical forums , ensuring alignment across functions. Stay ahead of industry trends and introduce tools, frameworks, or approaches that elevate Voicemod’s engineering practices. What you'll need ✅ 10+ years of experience in backend developmen t, with at least 3+ years in technical leadership roles (Staff, Principal, or equivalent). Proven expertise in distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architecture s. Strong track record of designing systems at scale (millions of users, high availability, low latency). Deep understanding of Node.js, cloud infrastructure (GCP/AWS/Azure), and Kubernetes. Experience defining and rolling out e ngineering standards, guidelines, and architecture principles. Excellent communication skills to influence both engineers and non-technical stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to mentor and grow engineering talent , fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration. Proactive mindset with a willingness to tackle challenges hands-on. High standards across your work, collaboration, and project involvement. A passion for continuous learning and growth, aligned with Voicemod's mission, products, and technology. Bonus Points Experience with real-time communication, audio/video processing, or gaming platforms. Knowledge of event streaming platforms (Kafka, Pub/Sub). Contribution to open-source projects or thought leadership (talks, publications). Hiring Process ⚙️ Our interview process takes place on Google Meet and includes the following stages: 1️⃣ External Talent Partner Interview – Initial conversation with our recruitment partner to review your background and confirm alignment with the role (≈ 60 min). 2️⃣ Hiring Manager Interview – Interview with the Manager and the Director of Engineering (Hiring Manager) to validate your skills, seniority, and professional experience (≈ 120 min). 3️⃣ Technical Interview – Live coding session with two Backend team members to assess your technical abilities (≈ 60 min). 4️⃣ HR Interview – Final conversation with our People team to answer any remaining questions and cover practical details (up to 45 min). ⚡ Don't meet 100% of the criteria?
