Planning and Sustainability Director (Director II)
About the position Responsibilities • Provide strategic leadership for the Bureau of Planning and Sustainability's initiatives. • Guide a high-performing team and manage a budget of over $150 million. • Collaborate with city leaders and external stakeholders to advance progressive policies. • Set a clear vision for the bureau, focusing on sustainability and equity. • Develop and maintain effective relationships with diverse communities and stakeholders. • Innovate and find creative solutions to urban and environmental challenges. • Ensure operational excellence and accountability within the bureau. Requirements • Experience leading and managing large, complex planning and community development initiatives. • Proven track record in overseeing financial administration and regulatory functions. • Experience addressing social, political, economic, and environmental issues in urban planning. • Ability to develop long-range strategic plans incorporating climate resilience and social justice. • Experience fostering community revitalization and economic growth through innovative programs. Nice-to-haves • Bachelor's degree in urban planning, environmental science, public administration, or a related field. • At least ten years of increasingly responsible management experience.
