Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) is responsible for providing leadership, operational support and oversight of the United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS) globally. The intern will report to the Physical Security Coordinator in the Office of the Chief, Security and Safety Service New York (SSS NY). Under the overall guidance and direct supervision of the Physical Security Coordinator (Architect), the intern will work in close collaboration with the senior management of SSS NY, ensuring timely support in conducting normative work of the team, which includes preparation of sketches, drawings, analysis and supporting ongoing construction projects. The duration of this internship is for a period of six (6) months, is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of the Physical Security Coordinator. This internship is designed to be conducted in person but can be adapted to accommodate hybrid arrangements (20 hours per week), on an exceptional basis. Within assigned authority, the intern is expected to undertake the following duties: • Assist in the digital archiving of construction project documents. • Assist with reviewing existing construction documents for projects. • Assist with research on the latest technology on physical security materials and systems. • Support the Physical Security Coordinator in archive management of project documents. • Assist in preparing sketches on AutoCAD or Revit.

Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, and MS Teams.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
