A wide variety of tasks are performed to support students in the learning process. This may include conferencing, goal setting, monitoring, and restoring relationships among other tasks. The ISS leader must be able to simultaneously connect with students while holding a firm line and high expectations. Students must follow a predetermined set of expectations to successfully complete their assigned ISS time and the leader is there to ensure successful completion of the program. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Works with the teacher to ensure students have appropriate work to be completed during their time in ISS. Gives group or individual instruction around routines, procedures, and expectations of the ISS room. Gives individualized instruction to pupils under teacher direction. Ensures completion of social emotional educational requirements as part of the ISS procedures. Maintains confidentiality in matters pertaining to the student(s) and the class. Reorganizes materials at the end of the day/period. Serves as proctor during testing as assigned by administration. Attends workshops as requested by the administration. Distributes and collects instructional materials. Checks and reports attendance. Files data according to regulatory requirements. Maintains consistent supervision of students in the classroom and other locations (transitions, lunch room, etc). Teaches social emotional skills using provided curricula (ripple effects & Character Strong). Reconciles minor student conflicts. Maintains classroom management through the ISS protocols provided. Reports discipline problems to the grade level administration. Arranges classroom furnishings and equipment. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES Working knowledge of effective methods of dealing with children. Working knowledge of the core subjects at the grade level to which employment assignment is made. Some knowledge of expected behavior of children, that is, basic characteristics of ages and stages. Skills necessary to make learning aids which will strengthen lesson plans. Ability to comprehend the purpose of teacher designed strategies as a fulfillment of the instructional objective. Ability to impart information to the child's level of comprehension. Ability to apply impartially and consistently proper methods of recognition, reward and punishment. Ability to independently solve most minor problems. Ability to follow minimally detailed written and oral instructions without constant supervision. MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Graduation from high school or a GED required, and a 2 or 4 year college degree; or 48 hours of college credit is preferred with preference for specialized training/or experience in education or such alternatives to these as may be found appropriate. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to sit, stand, walk and drive. Must be able to lift boxes up to 10 pounds. Physical demand requirements are for Light Work. Technology: Requires the ability to monitor email and maintain spreadsheets. Also must be able to navigate websites, login students and keep data on use and completion of online programs. Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving instructions, assignments or directions to subordinates, assistants and/or students. Language Ability: Requires the ability to read simple forms. Requires the ability to prepare time sheets and supply requisitions using prescribed format. Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form; to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations, must be willing and able to assist students where highly specialized material is involved. Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to organize, record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in Standard English, orally and in writing. Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas, to add, subtract, divide and multiply. Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using computers and other technology. Manual Dexterity: Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination. Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under above average levels of stress. Must have the ability to deal with students in a mature and reasonable way regardless of their temperament.
