About the Position: Shaping the Future of Ethnic Studies Education We are looking for an exceptional individual to join our faculty pool as a Part-Time Ethnic Studies instructor. This role is not just a teaching position; it's an opportunity to be a catalyst for change, to inspire, and to empower students from diverse backgrounds. The ideal candidate will be adept at creating a dynamic learning environment that values interaction, inclusivity, and the integration of new technologies. The teaching assignment may vary and could be at our Liberal Arts campus, Pacific Coast campus, or other teaching locations, including online courses. Key Responsibilities: Teaching, Service, and Community Engagement Teaching: Create an engaging and inclusive learning environment that fosters authentic learning experiences for students from diverse backgrounds. Adapt teaching pedagogy to meet the needs of individual students and classes, ensuring effective learning outcomes. Utilize a variety of teaching strategies and technologies to encourage student retention and success. Assess student learning through evidence-based methods and reflect on teaching practices to continuously improve. Service: Participate in department, division, and college committees, contributing to the shared governance of Long Beach City College. Engage in curriculum and program development to enhance the Ethnic Studies program. Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to ensure a cohesive and supportive educational environment. Utilize student support resources effectively to promote student success. Qualifications: The Ideal Candidate To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the minimum qualifications and possess the skills and competencies outlined below. Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in Ethnic Studies or a related field such as American Studies/Ethnicity, Latino Studies, La Raza Studies, Central American Studies, Latin American Studies, Cross Cultural Studies, Race and Ethnic Relations, Asian-American Studies, or African-American Studies. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms. Desirable Qualifications: Two years of recent experience teaching Ethnic Studies-related courses at the community college level. Evidence of commitment to equitable teaching outcomes and sensitivity to diverse student backgrounds. Ability to use a variety of teaching strategies and technologies. Desire and demonstrated ability to participate in department and college committees and shared governance.
