Part-Time Database Engineer (100% Remote)
We are seeking an experienced Database Engineer to review, optimize, and strengthen an existing on-premises database environment. This role will work closely with project managers and developers to evaluate current architecture, improve performance, and ensure long-term stability, scalability, and data integrity.
This is a part-time, fully remote position with flexible hours.
What You’ll Do
• Assess and document the current on-prem database architecture and performance
• Analyze indexing strategies, query execution plans, and schema design
• Identify and implement performance tuning improvements
• Review stored procedures, queries, and data models for efficiency and maintainability
• Collaborate with project managers to align technical improvements with project timelines
• Work directly with developers to optimize database interactions within applications
• Evaluate backup, recovery, and security configurations
• Recommend structural improvements to support long-term reliability
• Provide clear documentation and technical guidance
What We’re Looking For
• Strong hands-on experience managing and optimizing relational databases in on-prem environments
• Advanced SQL skills and deep experience with query tuning
• Solid understanding of indexing, normalization, and database performance diagnostics
• Experience troubleshooting production database issues
• Ability to work independently in a remote setting
• Strong communication skills and comfort working cross-functionally
Nice to Have
• Experience modernizing or refactoring legacy database systems
• Experience supporting applications tied to internal business systems
• Familiarity with version control and structured deployment processes
