Paralegal - Tenant Right to Counsel Project(TRCP)

Maryland Legal Aid (MLA) advocates for Marylanders experiencing poverty, providing free civil legal services to achieve equity and social justice. The Paralegal for the Tenant Right to Counsel Project will assist attorneys in eviction cases and engage with clients to prevent homelessness, while also participating in community outreach initiatives.ResponsibilitiesAssist attorneys in all aspects of representation in Failure to Pay Rent , Tenant Holding Over , and Breach of Lease eviction casesRegularly attend court as part of MLA’s same-day representation program to assist attorneys and clientsAssist attorneys in all aspects of representation in administrative hearings regarding the retention or recovery of housing subsidiesParticipate in client intake in-person in the office on a regular basis and in community outreach initiativesContinue professional development and education by attending trainings and other programs sponsored by Maryland Legal AidMaintain case records for clients in the LegalServer case management systemAll the above duties and responsibilities are essential job functions subject to reasonable accommodationSkillsAbility to use a computer, web-based applications, and computer programs such as Office 365, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPointExcellent communication, research, critical thinking, and writing skillsSelf-starter with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and meet regular deadlines in a fast-paced environmentAbility to provide quality legal advocacy and representation for a low-income, diverse client baseAbility to travel locally and regionally in Maryland as neededKnowledge of Westlaw Edge or other legal research software is a plusPrior experience and/or interest in providing nonprofit legal services is a plusSpanish language proficiency is desirableBenefitsHealthDentalVisionLife insuranceA 401(k) retirement planPaid time offSick leave14 annual paid holidaysA hybrid work arrangementCompany OverviewMaryland Legal Aid is a non-profit organization that provides civil legal services to less income people.
