Job description: Job Details:Yukon Public Schools (YPS) first opened its doors in 1891 in a small, one-room frame building. Fast-forward 127 years later, YPS now serves over 9,200 students across the greater Yukon area covering 68 square miles of Canadian County, including Yukon, NW Oklahoma City, SW Oklahoma City and Banner (when students enter the 9th grade). Over 1,200 full-time and part-time staff and faculty members serve the students and community of Yukon Public Schools across several academic, alternative, and athletic facilities, including 7 elementary schools, 3 intermediate schools, 1 middle school campus, and 1 high school campus. Yukon High School is currently the 7th largest high school in Oklahoma. In addition, technology and school improvements are included in this bond that align with our community developed strategic plan and includes our call to action: āYPS will empower learners to be self-sustaining, successful contributors, to life and the global community.āJob Description:TITLE: NATIVE AMERICAN STUDENT SERVICES ACADEMIC TUTORJOB SUMMARY: The N.A.S.S. academic tutor will work with Native American students within the framework of the school setting to provide support with skill development in math, reading and language arts. The tutor will also provide support to students with organizational skills, time management, and school success.REPORTS TO: Title VI CoordinatorESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provide academic instruction and support related to school success in individual, small group, and classroom settings.
Support Native American studentsā literacy development by using reading and writing strategies appropriate to the studentsā level of proficiency.
Support Native American studentās math concept development by implementing lessons, activities, and strategies appropriate to the studentsā level of proficiency.
Assist Native American students in preparing for assessments by reinforcing thinking and study skills and reviewing materials learned.
Provide feedback to the teacher regarding Native American studentsā progress and challenges in the learning academic content and language.
Communicate with teachers, staff, and NASS personnel regarding individual students as related to student achievement, school success, and student and family needs.
Collaborate with teachers, staff, and NASS personnel to plan effective interventions and support student achievement based on data derived from students, parents, and staff.
Must be able to maintain accurate records (journals, daily logs, spreadsheet, etc.) as well as interpret basic data and information related to student learning and behavior.
EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
Demonstrate ability to engage in positive interactions with elementary age students; ability to effectively communicate concepts related to student learning and success; maintain confidentiality; and manage positive student behavior in individual, small group, and classroom setting.
Certification or an Associateās degree or 48 college hours.
Demonstrate proficiency with elementary math concepts (PK-5), English Language Arts (reading, writing, speaking), and proper punctuation, grammar, spelling, and vocabulary.
Demonstrate ability to work both independently and in small group settings.
Demonstrate ability to effectively use basic office software (e.g. Word, Excel), basic office equipment (e.g. copier).
Demonstrate ability to use Google applications and/or ability to learn the use of Google applications.
WORKING CONDITIONS:Will be required to regularly stand, sit, and walk for extended periods.
Must regularly lift/move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift/move objects up to 25 pounds.
May be asked to participate in a limited number of evening activities and/or training activities.
Ability to communicate effectively with parents, staff members, and students from all cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
This position is funded by Title VI Federal Funds and is dependent upon continued availability of such funds.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Part-time during the school day
19.5 hours per week
Days and hours to be determined
Current certified YPS employees are not eligible during their work day
Will travel between multiple elementary sites
Hourly Rate:
Certified Teachers - $25/hour
Noncertified Support - $14.77/hour
