MS SQL Engineer

We are seeking an MS SQL Engineer to ensure stable and efficient operations of MS SQL Server databases across production and non-production environments. You will maintain database availability, performance, security, and reliability while supporting upgrades, migrations, and continuous service improvements. On-call duty typically occurs once per month, with a maximum of two occurrences per month. Responsibilities • Monitor SQL Server database performance, availability, space usage, and scheduled jobs • Respond to alerts, troubleshoot L2-level incidents, and escalate critical issues when necessary • Manage user access, roles, permissions, and support audit and compliance requirements • Support installation, configuration, database creation, restoration, and refresh activities • Perform regular backup checks and assist with restore tests and disaster recovery exercises • Support developers with database object creation such as tables, indexes, stored procedures, and views • Analyze slow-running queries using execution plans and basic performance tools • Maintain operational documents including standard operating procedures, runbooks, and configuration records • Assist with deployments, release validations, and implementing database changes • Contribute to automation initiatives and suggest operational improvements • Provide 24×7 rotational on-call support as required Requirements • 4 to 6 years of hands-on experience as an MS SQL Database Administrator • Good understanding of MS SQL Server architecture, storage structures, and indexing • Experience with backup and restore using native SQL Server backups including full, differential, and log • Knowledge of SQL Agent jobs, alerts, and basic performance tuning using dynamic management views • Understanding of AlwaysOn basics including read-only routing and health monitoring • Working knowledge of T-SQL and basic scripting • Basic Windows Server administration skills • Basic knowledge of at least one other relational database management system such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MongoDB • Strong analytical skills and communication skills • English proficiency at the B2 Upper-Intermediate level Nice to have • Exposure to AlwaysOn Availability Groups and Failover Cluster Instances • Experience with patching, cumulative updates, and upgrade activities • Understanding of monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, Microsoft System Center Operations Manager, Dynatrace, and Redgate • Experience with cloud database services including Azure SQL Database, Azure Managed Instance, AWS RDS for SQL Server, and Google Cloud Platform • Scripting with PowerShell for automation • Microsoft certifications such as MCSA, MCSE, or DP-series We offer/Benefits We connect like-minded people • Delivering innovative solutions to industry leaders, making a global impact • Enjoyable working environment, whether it is the vibrant office or the comfort of your own home • Opportunity to work abroad for up to two months per year • Relocation opportunities within our offices in 55+ countries • Corporate and social events We invest in your growth • Leadership development, career advising, soft skills and well-being programs • Certifications, including GCP, Azure and AWS • Unlimited access to LinkedIn Learning and Get Abstract • Free English classes with certified teachers We cover it all • Participation in the Employee Stock Purchase Plan • Monetary bonuses for engaging in the referral program • Comprehensive medical & family care package • Five trust days per year (sick leave without a medical certificate) • Benefits package (sports activities, a variety of stores and services) EPAM Georgia is a team of innovators united by a passion for technology.
