Job Summary
SHL Benefits is hiring motivated individuals for an Insurance Sales Representative role within the health and life insurance industry. This position is ideal for professionals with backgrounds in healthcare, customer service, education, or caregiving who are looking to transition into a career focused on helping families make informed decisions for their health and life insurance needs. No prior sales experience is required — training support is provided.
No insurance sales or regulated financial activities occur prior to obtaining the required license(s), as mandated by law.
This role is structured as a 1099 independent contractor position. Compensation is commission-based and becomes available only after required licensure and authorization, in accordance with applicable regulations. This position does not guarantee licensure, income, or future authorization to conduct insurance sales.
Role Responsibilities (Training & Pre-Licensing Focus)
• Complete self-paced training modules covering insurance fundamentals
• Study state insurance regulations, compliance standards, and ethical requirements
• Prepare for the state Life Insurance licensing examination
• Learn insurance application, documentation, and onboarding processes
• Observe licensed insurance agents and professionals to understand compliant practices
No insurance sales or client solicitation occur prior to proper licensure.
Training & Licensing Information
• No prior insurance or financial services experience required
• Training is fully remote and self-paced
• Licensing guidance is provided
• A state-issued Health and Life Insurance license is legally required before conducting insurance sales
• Any regulated insurance or financial activities require appropriate licensure and authorization
Compensation
• Commission-based compensation after licensure only
• No salary, hourly wages, stipends, draws, or guaranteed income
• Commission structure is disclosed after licensing and authorization
Work Structure
• Fully / partially remote
• Independent contractor status (1099)
• Contractors manage their own training pace and schedule
• Make your own hours
Qualifications
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Willingness to obtain required state insurance licensure
• Interest in health / life and senior insurance sales
• Comfortable working independently in a self-directed learning environment
