Job description: Summary of Position:

Security First Managers is looking for a Legal Assistant who may be interested in pursuing a new career opportunity in the insurance industry. Successful candidates will use knowledge and skills learned in traditional legal fields to assistant attorneys with settling legal disputes that arise from claims. Legal Assistants will have the opportunity to build litigation skills in a professional environment, working as part of the Security First litigation team. The selected candidate will perform a variety of legal tasks within an assigned caseload of litigated files.

Opportunity for remote if at least 10 years' experience as a legal assistant handling civil litigation requirements are met.

Candidates must reside in Florida.

Essential Job Functions:
• Assists in the preparation and trial of lawsuits by participating in filing activities and preparation of correspondence
• Maintains a working knowledge of filing fees, filing periods, due dates, and procedural differences between courts
• Prepares documents such as answers to complaints, notices of appearance, notices of depositions, requests for productions, requests for admissions, and settlement documents (including releases)
• Drafts all correspondence, legal pleadings, briefs, reports, discovery notices, and motions as required
• Maintains a daily calendar in the internal management system for attorney to ensure all deadlines are met; responsible for sending reminders to attorneys on all pleadings and discovery matters
• Maintains a centralized office calendar for attorneys being supported
• Schedules deposition, hearings, or any other meeting required during the life of the case
• Maintains and understand client confidentiality rules
• Reviews and evaluates assigned cases
• Attends trial with attorneys when required
• Collaborates with Litigation Examiners/Specialists to execute the Agreed Litigation Plan for the defense of each case
• Keeps the assigned Litigation Examiner/Specialist informed throughout the life of assigned files
• Presents a professional and helpful appearance
• Assists in other areas of department or other departments as required
• Completes other duties as assigned with or without accommodation

Minimum Requirements:
• H.S. Diploma or GED with equivalent experience required; A.A. degree in legal studies from an accredited school a plus
• Minimum of two (2) years prior experience in an equivalent role
• Commitment to the highest ethical and professional standards; personal and professional integrity, unquestioned discretion in maintaining confidentiality
• First Party Property experience required
• Accurate, thorough, and keen attention to detail
• Comprehensive knowledge of legal terminology; property/casualty claims practices a plus
• Ability to handle small matters with little to no oversight or direction and handle medium size matters with some oversight and direction
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; excellent written and oral communication skills in both public and private settings
• PC Literate with a firm understanding of Microsoft Office Programs
