The Impact You'll Make
As a Lead Experience Designer on Accessibility, you'll be responsible for defining and scaling Airbnb's inclusive design initiatives with a focus on digital accessibility. You'll collaborate with cross-functional partners to elevate product quality and empower design teams to deliver innovative and accessible solutions. Your expertise will help bridge the gap between complex accessibility guidelines and simple, usable, and scalable solutions that benefit Airbnb's diverse community.
Key Responsibilities:
Empower design teams to build more inclusive end-to-end user experiences
Contribute accessible UI components, patterns, and documentation to Airbnb's industry-leading Design Language System
Define and deliver scalable tooling and frameworks for other designers to leverage, such as accessibility specs and annotations
Close knowledge gaps and increase technical expertise within Design by facilitating workshops and inclusive design trainings
Translate industry standards, like Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), into understandable and approachable deliverables to uplevel designers and writers
Review designs, mockups, and prototypes throughout the product development cycle to increase quality and compliance through weekly office hours
Your Expertise
To excel in this role, you'll need a strong foundation in both interaction and visual design, as well as experience in the inclusive design or accessibility space. Your expertise will be characterized by:
8+ years of professional experience in user experience and digital design
Experience in the inclusive design or accessibility space, or with design language systems
Proficiency designing across multiple platforms (iOS, Android, Desktop, Mobile Web)
Effective communication skills and an ability to translate technical accessibility guidelines into persuasive practices people will embrace
Demonstrated ability to deal with ambiguous environments, including adapting to new challenges, scenarios, and working styles
Understanding of how different assistive technologies (like screen readers or speech recognition software) behave, and how users of assistive technology may be impacted by different design choices
Essential Qualifications
We're looking for individuals with a passion for inclusive design and a strong track record of delivering accessible solutions. Your background should demonstrate a deep understanding of user experience design principles, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
