Overview

The Land Use Review Board (LURB) seeks a motivated professional to join the Act 250 team. The LURB administers Vermont's nationally recognized land use permitting law- Act 250. The LURB District Coordinators provide administrative and technical support to regional District Environmental Commissions, Act 250 permit applicants, and the general public throughout the land use permitting process.

We are looking for candidates who thrive in a team-oriented culture, are committed to excellent customer service, and enjoy working with the public. Strong communication, writing, organizational and project management skills are essential. Qualified applicants will have experience in land use regulation, environmental law, public administration and/or natural resources management.

The right candidate will have the opportunity to be considered for a full-time permanent classified position at the end of service. The work may be performed remotely and include districts statewide, however the position focus will likely be in districts on the eastern half of the state.

Environmental Factors

Duties are largely performed in a standard office environment. Site visits occur in all types of weather and may involve traversing geographies that include a range from cityscapes to isolated rural locations; and, terrain ranging from rough landscapes to municipal infrastructure. Travel and attendance at hearings may require that private means of transportation be available. Excellent human relations and negotiating skills are needed to deal with applicants who may express wide ranging emotions. Significant evening and overtime work may be required.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher in public administration, natural resources or related field and three (3) year's work experience involving land use planning, environmental conservation, as a para-legal, or in permit administration and enforcement.

OR

Two (2) years of graduate coursework in public administration, law, natural resources or a related field and one (1) year of work experience, involving land use planning, environmental conservation, as a para-legal, or in permit administration and enforcement.
