Investment Engineer

Alphataraxia Management (ATX) is a fast-growing quantitative investment management group specializing in wholesale electricity markets. They are hiring an Investment Engineer to build proprietary systems that support trading operations and investment strategies, focusing on creating high-powered models and analysis tools. Responsibilities Build forecasting and analysis tooling that directly support our investment strategies, focusing on capturing the firm’s unique understanding of the markets through software Develop expertise in energy markets by working closely with our investment teams, learning market fundamentals, and understanding how our tools drive decision-making in volatile electricity markets Collaborate with investment analysts to understand market analysis workflows, translate desired outcomes into intuitive software solutions, and gather feedback for continuous improvement Own the product lifecycle for forecasting and analysis tools, including scoping outcomes, product design, implementation, testing, and ongoing enhancement based on user feedback Debug and troubleshoot issues with focus on root cause analysis and building robust solutions that prevent future problems Lead product discovery conversations with stakeholders to identify opportunities for new tools that drive measurable impact in our market analysis and investment performance Skills At least a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related quantitative field; study of the electricity grid preferred Advanced skills in at least one programming language, ideally Python Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to structure and deliver work effectively Comfort working both individually and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment Eagerness to learn about energy markets Excellent communication skills: able to write clearly, listen actively, and tailor messages to technical and non-technical audiences High level of ownership, resilience, and adaptability in the face of challenges An ability to work in person on a hybrid schedule (three days per week in-office) in our DC office Benefits 20 paid vacation days + 7 paid federal holidays Excellent health, dental, and vision insurance (including HSA option) with no monthly premiums for best-in-class platinum individual plan 401k match -- 100% company matching on the first 4% of deferrals with immediate vesting Annual firmwide weeklong summit Fully remote work option for the month of July and between Thanksgiving and New Years Casual environment (informal attire) Snacks and unlimited coffee in the office Firm-sponsored social events including happy hours, lunches, book club, and more!
