About the position

The Insurance Biller I position at Neighborhood Healthcare is designed to support the organization's mission by managing the medical billing process for patients and funding sources. This role involves ensuring compliance with coding processes, handling billing inquiries, and providing excellent customer service. The position is hybrid, allowing for a combination of remote and on-site work.

Responsibilities
Β• Reviews progress notes to obtain payer measures and requirements information for proper submission compliance.

Β• Reviews and obtains required information for missing and incomplete billings, such as missing DX, procedure codes, payer specific needs, eligibility screening, and coverage verification.
,
Β• Creates and submits claims for clean billable charges and statements in compliance with correct coding initiatives and billing industry requirements.
,
Β• Processes and monitors system claim status categories to ensure all transactions are captured for month end close.
,
Β• Registers patients in the payment portal, as needed.
,
Β• Reviews, processes, and obtains patient eligibility information to ensure accuracy and completion, including acquisition of authorization numbers, as needed.
,
Β• Applies discounts to billing statements for patients eligible for the Sliding Fee Discount Program (SFDP), as needed.
,
Β• Posts patient and insurance payments to account balance adjustments and write offs, as assigned.
,
Β• Reviews and processes refunds and insurance recoupment requests.
,
Β• Submits patient statements on cash accounts, as needed.
,
Β• Processes monthly collection accounts for collection agencies, as needed.
,
Β• Supports the patient billing phone lines and voicemails; returns calls, as needed.
,
Β• Discusses billing inquiries with patients to resolve account questions and/or problems.
,
Β• Negotiates payment plans with patients, as needed.
,
Β• Provides excellent customer service to patients and escalates issues to a supervisor, if needed.
,
Β• Responds to site, insurance, and patient correspondences related to billing in a timely manner.
,
Β• Attends billing training and team meetings.

Requirements
Β• High school diploma or GED required.
,
Β• Medical billing or coding Certification from an accredited school preferred.
,
Β• Two years of front office or medical administration experience required; medical billing experience preferred.
,
Β• Experience working in a specialty and/or FQHC community clinic is preferred.
,
Β• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including superior composition, typing and proofreading skills.
,
Β• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
,
Β• Knowledgeable about and experience with insurance eligibility processes and coverage guidelines for multiple carriers.
,
Β• Knowledgeable about and experience with billing compliance standards.
,
Β• Knowledgeable on uses of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD codes.
,
Β• Knowledgeable with insurance payers, funding sources, and managed care plans.
,
Β• Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
,
Β• Excellent planning and organizational ability.
,
Β• Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently.
,
Β• Ability to work with highly confidential information in a professional and ethical manner.

Nice-to-haves
