DAY-TO-DAY

This full-time education position with our human services nonprofit works the day shift during school hours.

As an Early Childhood Specialist - Teaching Assistant in human services, you're responsible for working under the supervision of the classroom teacher to care for the physical and emotional needs of your students. When the teacher is involved with other activities, you supervise the class and implement each individual student's education plan. You provide services to individuals with varying behavioral problems, including physical aggression and verbal assault, as well as inappropriate sexual comments, gestures, and acts.

In addition, you order supplies and design programs for the classroom under the direction of the teacher. You also provide lesson plans in written format as well as organize and supervise recreational activities, behavioral plans, and incentive programs for students. When there's no school, you perform a variety of residential responsibilities or supervise work sites for students in the community.

You help supervise other teacher assistants in both educational and residential settings. Each day, you also ensure the time-out log is completed. As assigned, you attend staffing and department in-service to stay informed about important information regarding the school and your students. Teaching is what you were meant to do, and it brings you great satisfaction to know you serve as such a positive influence in the lives of your students

REQUIREMENTS FOR AN EARLY CHILDHOOD SPECIALIST - TEACHING ASSISTANT

High school diploma or equivalent
Level I NYS teacher assistant certification
