Arapahoe County Department of Human Services (ACDHS) is on a mission to build strong communities by promoting the safety, independence, and stability of individuals and families. We're seeking a dedicated and compassionate Hotline Caseworker to join our team on a fully remote basis. This approach focuses on family-centered program design, aligning services and resources to create long-term stability and sustainability for families. By working together with multiple organizations, we aim to break the generational cycle of poverty and build strong, effective families.

Our Child and Adult Protection Services (CAPS) Division provides critical protective services to children, teens, and adults, including foster care, adoption, and adolescent services. As a Hotline Caseworker in the intake screening unit, you'll play a vital role in receiving and responding to crisis referrals, assessing situations, and providing support to those in need.

Key Responsibilities


Receive incoming calls of a crisis nature, assessing the problem and gravity of the situation, and gathering necessary information to make an initial assessment and determine case disposition.
Conduct thorough record checks using various state and county systems, including Trails, CBMS, and Colorado Courts.
Provide community resources and information via telephone and email, process police and school reports, and prioritize follow-up actions.
Complete follow-up work and callbacks as requested by the RED Team to obtain additional information and influence case disposition.
Participate in RED Teams on a routine basis, contributing to case discussions and decision-making.


Requirements: Skills, Abilities, and Competencies

To succeed as a Hotline Caseworker, you'll need:


A basic understanding of social casework principles and methods, including knowledge of child and adult abuse/neglect/exploitation dynamics.
Knowledge of agency and state rules, regulations, and procedures, as well as effective parenting methods and maladaptive family dynamics.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to elicit information from callers in a timely and accurate manner.
The ability to assess immediate crisis situations, establish a plan of action with minimal supervision, and exercise independent judgment and decision-making skills.
Knowledge of community resources and the ability to provide appropriate referrals and support.

Education and Experience

A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a major in a human behavior science field is required. This includes degrees in social work, psychology, sociology, guidance and counseling, or child development. Work Environment and Physical Demands

This is a fully remote position, working from Wednesday to Saturday, 9:00 PM - 7:30 AM. While the work environment is generally confined to a standard office setting, the role can be stressful and fast-paced. The physical demands of the job include:


Spending 80% of the time sitting and 20% standing or walking.
Occasional lifting, carrying, pulling, or pushing up to 20 lbs.
Verbal and auditory capacity for constant interpersonal communication.
Constant use of eye, hand, and finger coordination for automated office machinery.


Pre-Employment and Post-Employment Requirements

To be considered for this role, you'll need to:


Successfully pass pre-employment testing, including an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) and background check.
Possess a valid Class "R" Colorado Driver's License or be able to obtain one within two weeks of appointment.
Undergo fingerprinting and a Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) background check as part of the security clearance process.
