Role Description
This is the entry level of the Engineering classification. Employees at this entry level solve problems in engineering areas of specialization with close supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop skills and the ability to work with greater independence. They have knowledge of fundamental concepts and procedures.
This position will support the New Megawatts initiative within the Nuclear Generation Department including the power uprate projects at Catawba, McGuire, and Brunswick. This position will offer an opportunity to develop a diverse understanding of power plant specific systems, layouts, and design basis while working on multi-year projects supporting exciting new nuclear generation projects. Responsibilities include:
• Plant walkdowns
• Vendor interfaces
• Development of program/project documents
• Assistance with funding packages
• Schedule development
• Other needs consistent with large projects
The position should be located at a Charlotte area Duke Energy nuclear facility or corporate office and will report to an engineering manager in the Nuclear Generation Department. This position allows a hybrid work posture with work split between in the office and remote, involving onsite plant visits based on project needs.
Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program
• A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering
• 0-2 years of engineering experience for Nuclear Engineer I
• 2-4 years of engineering experience for Nuclear Engineer II
Requirements
• Minimum of 1 year of nuclear experience
• In lieu of 1 year of nuclear experience, a selected candidate is subject to the oversight and written approval authority of a designated qualified individual until the selected candidate becomes fully qualified
• Able to achieve nuclear site Unescorted Access
• Willingness to work extended hours with changes in work schedule whenever necessary, which at times could include call outs to support stations in an emergent condition
• This position may be required to have Emergency Response Organization (ERO) responsibilities which could include callouts with a defined response time to the site and an on-call duty rotation requiring the employee to be Fit for Duty
• Required to wear personal protective equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, fall protection, etc.) as needed
• Occasional overnight travel
