As a High School Accompanist and Choir Assistant, you will be an integral part of this mission, working closely with the vocal music teacher and other staff members to deliver exceptional music programs. Key Responsibilities Play piano and keyboard instruments for curricular high school vocal music groups at all rehearsals and performances, both during the school day and for events outside of school hours, including some evenings and weekends. Provide accompaniment for additional school-related soloist and small ensemble rehearsals and performances, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability. Lead small group and sectional rehearsals as directed by the vocal music teacher, showcasing your ability to communicate effectively and guide students. Lead rehearsals in the absence of the vocal music teacher, working in conjunction with a certified substitute teacher to ensure a productive and supervised learning environment. Perform various duties as assigned, including music library organization, financial accounting, clerical support, creating practice and performance recordings, and potentially assisting with non-performance classes. Essential Qualifications To excel in this role, you must possess: The ability to play music across a range of styles, including classical, light opera, musical theatre, jazz, rock, and current popular music. The skill to read and play complex scores, including open scoring with up to 6 staves, piano reductions of instrumental compositions, and chord charts. The capacity to sight-read and learn music quickly for multiple ensembles and soloists. A positive, professional attitude and excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, parents, and the community. A willingness to respond positively to supervision and artistic direction from the vocal music director and other colleagues. Preferred Qualifications While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable: A degree in music or a related field. Experience working with high school students in a music setting. A proven track record of providing high-quality accompaniment and support for vocal music programs.
