Description DEPARTMENT: Head Start & Early Learning Programs Education POSITION: Practice Based Coach LOCATION: Northampton STATUS: Non-Exempt SUPERVISOR: Director of Education POSITION SUMMARY Using a variety of strategies, the Practice Based Coach works alongside educators to measurably improve the quality of teaching practices. The Practice Based Coach accomplishes this through observations, relationship building, and aligning guidance with the teaching practices identified by the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) and the Brazelton Touchpoints Approach. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES • Implement Practice Based Coaching, according to a flexible model that includes 1:1 meeting outside classroom, shadowing or observation within the classroom, video observation, and group meetings. • Prioritize and maintain a list of assigned educators; maintain and share documentation as needed. • Operate under the triad approach of collaboration between coach, educator and supervisor. • Participate in ongoing evaluation and assessment of the coaching program. • Conduct CLASS Assessments, as needed. • Assist the Director of Education and Managers in ongoing planning and development of the coaching program. • Adhere to confidentiality requirements and all other Agency and Program Standards of Conduct. • Remote work available complying with the agency’s policy. • Required to travel regularly throughout the Service area, to all Community Action sites and service locations, and occasionally out of the service area. • Comply with agency and funders’ paperwork requirements and procedures. • Attend regularly scheduled supervision meetings, team meetings, mandatory agency trainings, and participate in professional development activities. • Performs related work as required. QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS The ideal candidate will?demonstrate?the following competencies. • Interpersonal?communication?– verbal and written; in-person and phone. • Conflict resolution,?problem-solving,?establishing?priorities, navigating change. • Adapt?to changing priorities and?demonstrate?close attention to detail. • Judgement and decision-making, related to teaching practices and interpersonal relationships. • Reflective practice skills. • Organized, flexible, and able to adapt successfully to diverse learning styles. • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft?Suite and databases). • Gather and track data related to coaching progress and outcomes Key Knowledge and Experience:?? • Experience working with infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and families. • Experience in coaching, supervision, or training adult learners. • Familiar with best practices in birth-to-five education, with knowledge of the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework, Head Start Program. • Performance Standards, and Department of Early Education and Care Guidelines and Standards. To Qualify: Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or related field. • Two years of experience teaching young children. • Trained in the Brazelton Touchpoints Approach within one year of hire. • Reliable CLASS observer within 6 months of hiring and maintaining reliability. Requirements PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT The physical demand and work environment described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. • Frequent sitting, standing, walking and climbing stairs. • Manual dexterity required for use of computer keyboard and mouse. • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. • Must be able to engage in activities that include bending, floor activities, and lifting young children 6 weeks to 5 years of age. • The employee must have the ability to drive a personal vehicle and program vehicles, as needed. • Will spend time in an office space as well as the classroom and occasionally outdoors. • The noise level in the office is usually quiet, but the noise and activity level in the classroom may be moderately high. REQUIREMENT FOR VIDEO/AUDIO RECORDING STAFF/CHILD INTERACTIONS The Office of Head Start uses the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) as part of its monitoring processes, via recording or through on-site visits. ?In preparation, self-assessments of HS & ELP classrooms involve live, virtual, or recorded observations of teachers working with children. Community Action is an AA/EOE/ADA Employment is contingent upon the following: a satisfactory Background Record Check (BRC) which includes Criminal Offender Record (C.O.R.I.), Department of Children and Families (DCF) background check, Sex Offender Registry information (SORI) checks, fingerprint-based national and state criminal history database checks, National Sex Offender Registry (NCOR), and Out-of-State checks (CORI, SORI, DCF) if an individual has lived in another state within the last five years. BRC and fingerprinting-based national and state criminal history check is to be completed every three years. In addition, employment is contingent on evidence of physical exam within the past year, plus verification of MMRs. Documentation of subsequent physical exams must be submitted every 2 years. Also, submit evidence of a good driving record and ability to be covered under Community Action’s non-owned and hired vehicle policy Apply tot his job
