This role is for someone with strong mechanical design skills, anability to lead projects in a multi-functional setting, and excellent communicationskills with both vendors within Asia and internal teams at OAI. The role willrequire the ability to deliver outstanding design solutions while balancingmultiple priorities on demanding schedules. You will be responsible for buildingprototypes for design validation and driving failure analysis.You might thrive in this role if you have:3+ years demonstrated ability in mechanical design and consumer hardwareExperience working with contract manufacturers, highly desirableHandheld/portable device experience, a huge plusPassion for making great products and solving tough design problemsDemonstrated ability in plastic and metal part design including material selectionExperience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), and Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, and geometric tolerancing, with focus on high volume manufacturingExperience with technical graphical communication of concepts, ideas, and solutionsExperience with component modules (OLED/LCD, batteries, sensing, acoustic, camera modules, etc.)Integration of wireless antenna (Cellular, GPS, WiFi, BT) into mechanical enclosures, a huge plusIntegration of electrical subsystems (OLED/LCD, sensing, microphone, speaker, receiver, camera)Design of highly cosmetic enclosures with liquid and dust ingress protection, a huge plusExperience with 3D CAD modeling systems and workflow, Siemens NX proficiency preferredSolid understanding of FEA (stress analysis)Ability to travel internationally (20%+)Bachelors or Masters/PhD degree with a specialization in Mechanical/ Aerospace/Mechatronics Engineering and 3+ years of related proven experienceAbout OpenAIOpenAI is an AI research and deployment company dedicated to ensuring that general-purpose artificial intelligence benefits all of humanity.
