About JerseySTEM:
All JerseySTEM roles are pro-bono (unpaid) positions.JerseySTEM is a mission-driven professional network of pro-bono contributors dedicated to improving access to STEM education and career pathways for underserved middle school girls in New Jersey.Members contribute their professional skills and leverage their networks in service of the organizationâs gender-equity agenda.Membership is a minimum six-month commitment of approximately six flexible hours per week and includes a $100 refundable deposit, returned after six months of active membership. Kâ12 educators, retirees, veterans, interns, and students are exempt from the deposit.
Overview:
This is a pro-bono volunteer position. JerseySTEM is looking for talented professionals across our departments to commit time and energy as long-term engagement for our mission to provide STEM education to underrepresented middle school girls. In addition to Corporate and Individual donations, Grants are a potential large source of financial support for the JerseySTEM mission. JerseySTEM is looking for a Department Head who can help us establish and manage the infrastructure to effectively and efficiently access this stream of funding for JerseySTEM.
Responsibilities:
Implement best practices in Grant Research, Writing and ManagementManage a team of Grant Researchers and Grant WritersInvestigate and evaluate JerseySTEMâs, and other organizationsâ, process for applying for grants.Make recommendations regarding requirements to create and implement an improved process.Make recommendations regarding creating a robust and self-sustaining team Work with the human resources group to identify and on-board volunteers with the requisite skills.Monitor and guide the teamâs efforts. Attend virtual team meetings once a weekReport to the board on teamâs performance and provide recommendations on team structure and operational management, as well as on-going potential further improvements.
Qualifications:
Genuine concern about/interest in solving the STEM education gender and opportunity gap.Experience developing and supervising teams.Experience working with volunteer organizations.Strong leadership/team building skills.Resourceful, can-do attitude.Comfort working in a âvirtual organizationâ with digital tools (G-Suite, Slack, Jira, salesforce).Flexible schedule to allow for non-regular, scheduled meetings during the workweek 1-2 times a month
