Graduate Plumbing & Fire Protection Engineer - DC (Summer 2026)
Buro Happold is seeking a Graduate Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineer to join their inclusive team in DC. The role involves assisting in the design and coordination of plumbing and fire protection systems for various building types, providing recent graduates with hands-on experience in building systems engineering. Responsibilities Support the development of plumbing and fire protection system designs under the guidance of senior engineers Prepare construction drawings from schematic design through construction administration Perform calculations using standard engineering software and tools Conduct field surveys to document existing conditions and observe progress during construction Participate in interdisciplinary coordination with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical and civil engineering teams Assist in client meetings and value engineering sessions Contribute to quality assurance and constructability reviews Help develop discipline specific standards and specifications Ensure service and project work are carried out to an excellent standard and quality within agreed deadlines and budget Skills Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Fire Protection, Civil, Sanitary, Environmental, or Architectural Engineering Coursework in mechanical design, heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid hydraulics/dynamics Awareness of building, plumbing and fire codes, (IPC, NFPA) Proficiency with BIM modelling software, such as Revit and AutoCAD Ability to communicate thoughts and technical ideas in an accessible manner Eagerness to learn and work as part of a multidisciplinary team Internship experience at engineering related firm preferred Proven interest in the built environment and sustainable design Benefits Generous benefits package Annual discretionary bonus Generous PTO (4 weeks) in addition to 10 paid holidays 401k with company match Hybrid working & summer hours Reimbursement for certain professional licenses and associated renewals and exam fees Connection to global network of experts on the forefront of industry initiatives Access to wide ranging learning and development opportunities Company Overview Buro Happold is an international, multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy.
