We cover politics, celebrity drama, viral internet moments, and quirky stories from across America - anything that sparks conversation, fuels debate, or makes readers stop scrolling. We’re building a team of freelance writers who can capture stories quickly and deliver bold, engaging coverage with personality. In particular, we’re looking for writers with experience or a special interest in covering American politics. But we’re not interested in generic political news reporting. The Nerd Stash’s political coverage focuses on the unusual, the outrageous, and the moments that blur the line between politics and pop culture. Think celebrity protests, viral clips of politicians caught off-guard, and headline-grabbing stunts that dominate social media feeds. If it’s strange, sensational, or sparks online debate - that’s our sweet spot. What You’ll Do • Write 3–5 articles per week, each minimum 400 words (typical length 400–700) • Cover a mix of political headlines, cultural flashpoints, and viral local stories • Pitch fresh story ideas daily and take assignments from editors • Spot viral trends on Reddit, TikTok, Facebook, X, and local news outlets • Craft eye-catching, scroll-stopping headlines and sharp ledes • Provide clean, accurate, and fast turnarounds while stories are still hot • Add supporting sources, embeds, and links to strengthen coverage What We’re Looking For • Writers with experience (or strong instincts) in news, politics, or viral reporting • A casual, internet-savvy voice with the ability to lean into absurd or outrageous angles when appropriate • Strong headline skills, you know how to make readers click without misleading • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines consistently • Comfortable writing with a strong point of view while maintaining accuracy • Availability to cover stories on weekends is a major plus Bonus Points If You • Have experience with local news, political commentary, or viral internet coverage • Can match the tone of outlets like BuzzFeed News, Dexerto, or The Daily Dot • Have a sharp sense of humor and an eye for stories that can blow up online • Are familiar with SEO best practices and CMS platforms like WordPress Compensation • Per-article payment with additional view-based bonuses • Flexible remote schedule, write from anywhere • Visibility across our platform reaching thousands daily How to Apply Please submit: • A short introduction about yourself and your writing experience • 2–3 writing samples (politics, culture, viral news preferred) • 3 headline ideas for the kind of stories you’d want to write for us Note: All applicants will be asked to complete a short paid writing test.
