The Position

Edutopia is seeking a part-time Data Analyst (up to 20 hours a week) to help our mission-driven organization better assess our overall performance and identify areas for optimization. In this role, you'll directly support the product and marketing teams in generating actionable insights on critical questions like “How many of our users are deeply engaged with new site features?” and “Which content performs well across multiple channels and KPIs?”. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with a strong analytical background and excellent attention to detail. A passion for making the world a better place helps, too.

What You’ll Do:

Data Analysis & Insights
• Analyze user behavior, feature adoption, funnel conversions, and retention metrics to inform product development and enhancements;

• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to define ongoing projects and KPIs, ensuring alignment with our objectives.

Reporting Optimization & Automation
• Design, build, and maintain scalable reporting dashboards to streamline decision-making and ensure timely, relevant insights are readily available across our teams;
• Automate recurring reports to improve efficiency and accuracy;
• Identify inefficiencies in existing reporting frameworks and propose solutions for improvement; add new frameworks and/or dashboards to the mix as our learning questions expand.

Data Management & Governance
• Ensure data integrity and consistency across different reporting platforms;
• Document best practices for data collection, storage, and reporting; train internal team members as needed.

Required Skills/Competencies:
• Strong data-wrangling and analytical skills; seamless ability to clean, structure, and interpret complex data sets;
• Excellent data manipulation skills using Google Sheets/ Excel; knowledge of advanced formulas, pivot tables, and data visualization;
• Experience and comfort working with a variety of analytics tools, databases, and programming languages, specifically GA4, SQL, and Python/R;
• Experience evaluating key product and marketing metrics, including user acquisition, engagement, conversion, and retention, and familiarity with hypothesis testing, regression, clustering, and predictive modeling;
• Ability to communicate findings effectively to stakeholders, translating complex data into clear insights and recommendations.

Preferred Skills / Competencies:
• Experience or familiarity with tools like Heap, Amplitude, or Mixpanel; knowledge of digital marketing metrics and trends;
• Knowledge of statistical methods for running and analyzing controlled experiments (e.g., A/B testing).

Education / Experience:
• A bachelor’s degree in statistics, data science, mathematics, economics, computer science, or business analytics is preferred;
• At least 2-3 years of experience as a data analyst or in a similar role is required; current master's or PhD students are encouraged to apply.
