Freelance Copy-Editor & Proofreader (Ongoing Work, Priced Per 1,000 Words)
Overview We are a UK-based independent publishing house seeking experienced freelance copy-editors and proofreaders to join our editorial roster for ongoing work across fiction and nonfiction manuscripts. Projects will be assigned on a rolling basis and priced per 1,000 words, not hourly. If your rates fall outside of the pricing guidelines listed below, please do not apply. βΈ» Required Editorial Services 1. Copy-Editing (with tracked changes) In this service, you must: β’ Fully edit manuscripts for grammar, flow, clarity, sentence structure and word choice β’ Maintain author voice and genre expectations β’ Provide a short Style Sheet detailing edits made and explaining changes β’ Price must fall within: β’ Fiction β $3 per 1,000 words β’ Nonfiction β $4 per 1,000 words (Typical total expectation: approx. $5 per 1,000 words once fees and style sheet included) 2. Proofreading β’ Typos, punctuation, minor grammar and formatting issues only (light correction) β’ Must be performed using Track Changes β’ Two pricing tiers: β’ $1.25 per 1,000 words β for manuscripts you have already copy-edited β’ $2.50 per 1,000 words β for manuscripts you have not previously edited βΈ» Ideal Candidate β’ Proven editorial experience in fiction and/or nonfiction (please specify) β’ Meticulous attention to detail and excellent written English β’ Ability to follow style guides and work collaboratively with our project managers β’ Comfortable working to deadlines and providing regular project updates β’ Familiarity with MS Word Track Changes is essential βΈ» Application Instructions Please include the following in your proposal: 1.
