Who we are and what we do: The Tennessee Public Utility Commission (Commission) is the regulatory body created by the General Assembly to provide general supervisory and regulatory oversight over all aspects of Tennessee's privately-owned telephone, natural gas, electric, water and wastewater public utilities. The Commission provides administrative and investigative support to the Underground Utility Damage Enforcement Board. The Commission also administers popular consumer assistance programs, like the Do Not Call and Do Not Fax programs and the Telecommunications Device Access Program. In addition, Commission personnel inspect approximately 40,000 miles of natural gas distribution and transmission lines that service over 1,356,000 Tennessee customers. Job Overview:
This position plays a critical role in supporting the Utilities Division by managing key regulatory and administrative functions. Responsibilities include overseeing tariff documentation, bond management, and company record updates, as well as reviewing and processing financial and regulatory reports to ensure compliance with Commission standards. The role demands meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational capabilities, and the ability to prepare clear, professional memorandum. Effective communication with internal teams and representatives of regulated entities is essential to maintaining the integrity and efficiency of Commission operations. Key Responsibilities:
WORK ACTIVITIES
1. Manages tariff documentation by assigning tariff numbers, updating required information, and ensuring accuracy and consistency across official records. 2. Oversees bond management activities, including scanning and recording bonds, renewals, cancellations, and responding to inquiries from utility companies and internal staff. 3. Processes company name changes, cancellations, and contact information updates. Prepares clear and accurate memoranda to document actions taken. 4. Reviews, processes, and maintains annual and quarterly reports submitted by regulated entities, ensuring completeness and compliance with Commission requirements. 5. Evaluates and processes financial reports, verifying accuracy and maintaining organized records for audit and regulatory review. 6. Reviews and processes Competing Local Exchange Carrier applications. Prepares professional memoranda summarizing findings and recommendations. 7. Manages mail collection and distribution to support efficient office operations. 8. Audits and examines financial records of utility companies to determine compliance with accepted accounting principles and practices and adherence to applicable federal and state laws, rules and regulations. Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, or economics. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. The position will be filled with a person who has the ability to manage multiple projects in a timely manner, organize and prioritize assignments. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office skills including Word, Outlook, Excel are necessary to perform job responsibilities.
