As a volunteer crisis counselor with blithequark, you will have the opportunity to work directly with our youth, providing emotional support, guidance, and reassurance to those who are struggling. Your role will be to listen, offer advice, and connect our youth with resources and services that can help them navigate their challenges. Key Responsibilities As a volunteer crisis counselor with blithequark, your key responsibilities will include: Providing emotional support and guidance to youth who are experiencing bullying, cyberbullying, and mental health issues Listening to our youth and responding with empathy, understanding, and validation Making referrals to resources and services that can help our youth navigate their challenges Providing crisis intervention and support to youth who are at risk for suicide or other mental health emergencies Maintaining the highest levels of confidentiality and adhering to our policies and procedures Participating in ongoing training and supervision to ensure that you are equipped to handle the complex issues that our youth may face Essential Qualifications To be considered for this volunteer opportunity, you must: Be at least 19 years old Be a sophomore or junior undergraduate or graduate student in the field of psychology or social work Have a strong interest in working with youth who are bullied, cyberbullied, and who may be at risk for suicide Be patient, detail-oriented, and thorough, with excellent communication skills Be tech-savvy and have your own computer with a high-speed connection (working from mobile devices is not permitted) Be able to commit to a minimum of 6 months of volunteering, with a minimum of 12 hours per month (including 3 four-hour evening shifts) Be able to attend two online training sessions and participate in ongoing supervision and training Be able to read, write, and fluently converse in English (having a second language is a plus) Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications are preferred: Experience working with youth who are bullied, cyberbullied, and who may be at risk for suicide Background in crisis counseling, psychology, or social work Experience working in a virtual environment and using web-based platforms Strong commitment to social justice and advocacy for youth who are marginalized or oppressed Skills and Competencies To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and competencies: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to policies and procedures Strong commitment to cultural competence and sensitivity Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits As a volunteer crisis counselor with blithequark, you will have the opportunity to: Gain valuable experience working with youth who are bullied, cyberbullied, and who may be at risk for suicide Develop your skills and competencies in crisis counseling, psychology, and social work Participate in ongoing training and supervision to enhance your knowledge and skills Network with other professionals in the field of crisis counseling and youth support Enhance your resume and career prospects with a reputable organization Work Environment and Company Culture At blithequark, we are committed to creating a positive and supportive work environment that values diversity, equity, and inclusion.
