**Job Summary**

We are seeking an experienced Special Education Teaching Assistant to join our team of educators at the middle school level. As a Special Education Teaching Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting students with special needs to achieve their academic and personal goals. You will work closely with our special education teachers to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that cater to the unique needs of each student. Your primary focus will be to assist and enhance the educational process of students with disabilities in both instructional and non-instructional activities.

**Key Responsibilities**

* Assist special education teachers in developing and implementing IEPs for students with special needs
* Provide individualized support to students with special needs in academic studies, basic life skills, and other assigned instruction
* Implement behavior modification plans and procedures designed for individual students when necessary
* Maintain confidentiality regarding students and maintain positive relationships with all students, school staff, and parents
* Observe and record student progress
* Assist individual or groups of students during activities, including lunch and getting children safely on and off the bus
* Assist with hygiene and toileting activities, including transferring and lifting students
* Sanitize classroom and equipment using approved materials

**Essential Qualifications**

* Current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) or equivalent
* Associate degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution
* 60 semester hours of coursework from a regionally accredited institution
* High school diploma or equivalent + 480 or higher on the ETS Parapro test
* High school diploma or equivalent + 4 or higher on the ACT WorkKeys Applied Math and Workplace Documents
* Current Illinois Short Term Approval (STA) - Paraprofessional (if applicable)

**Preferred Qualifications**

* Experience working with students with special needs
* Knowledge of child guidance principles and practices
* Experience with behavior management and positive reinforcement
* Familiarity with classroom procedures and appropriate conduct
* Basic record-keeping methods

**Skills and Competencies**

* Effective interpersonal and communication skills
* Ability to work effectively with children and adults
* Ability to function within the framework of the school environment
* Strong organizational and time management skills
* Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
* Physical ability to lift, push, and pull items up to 100 lbs.
