Key Responsibilities Team Leadership and Development: Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing team of software engineers. This includes talent acquisition, career development, coaching, and process improvement to ensure the team's success and growth. Technical Vision and Strategy: Own the technical vision for applications and tools, aligning with Disney Streaming's overall goals and objectives. Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to prioritize work and set goals for the team. Engineering Practices and Excellence: Refine and maintain engineering practices to ensure operational excellence. This includes promoting best practices, code quality, and continuous improvement. Adaptability and Innovation: Demonstrate the ability to adapt quickly to changing requirements and priorities. Foster a culture of innovation, encouraging experimentation and learning within the team. Communication and Collaboration: Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders across different time zones. Essential Qualifications and Skills Experience: 3+ years of experience in software engineering management, with a proven track record of leading high-performing teams. Technical Skills: Strong programming skills in object-oriented languages, with a solid understanding of computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, databases, etc.). Event-Driven Systems: Experience with event-driven systems architectures, particularly in reactive design. Cloud Services: Hands-on experience deploying web services in cloud infrastructure, with a focus on scalability and reliability. Testing and Quality: Experience with writing unit tests and implementing test-driven development processes. Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Programming, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience. Preferred Qualifications and Skills Reactive Programming: Deep experience with reactive programming on JVM languages, ideally Java. Observability and Monitoring: Hands-on experience as a service administrator, with a background in creating and managing observability systems. AWS and IAC: Experience managing AWS services, with specific expertise using Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code (IAC) tools. NoSQL Databases: Hands-on experience with distributed NoSQL data stores like DynamoDB, Cassandra, Scylla, and Couchbase. Global Team Experience: Experience working with remote global teams and managing across different time zones.
