To support this endeavor, we're seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join our Dev Spaces team, driving innovation in IDEs, Dev Workspaces, and developer productivity. About the Dev Spaces Team The Dev Spaces team is dedicated to enhancing the productivity of Netflix engineers by optimizing the inner development loop - the iterative cycle of writing, building, and testing software. We're achieving this by developing Netflix-optimized IDEs, developer workflow tooling, and cloud development environments, known as Dev Workspaces. As a Software Engineer on this team, you'll play a critical role in shaping the technical direction and product vision for our IDEs, IDE integrations, and web UIs. Key Responsibilities Collaborate with partner teams to develop and ship valuable defaults to thousands of Netflix engineers, driving significant impact on confidence, efficiency, and quality across engineering. Drive further integrations between VS Code, JetBrains IDEs, and Dev Workspaces, equipping Netflix engineers with development environments that surpass industry standards. Design and build tooling and processes that simplify the development, testing, and distribution of IDE plugins, enhancing productivity for Netflix engineers. Lead or advise on the development of new web-based UIs for Dev Workspaces and IDE management tooling, ensuring seamless user experiences. Leverage your JavaScript or Java expertise to complement the team, advising peers on patterns and best practices. Mentor colleagues across the team and organization, fostering growth and expertise. Essential Qualifications To succeed in this role, you'll need: Strong communication skills to collaborate with and influence teams and individuals, driving initiatives forward without top-down mandates. Experience leading large, cross-functional projects or product domains, navigating technical and cultural change in a large organization. Professional-level proficiency in Java or JavaScript, with a track record of developing tooling for other engineers. A product-centric mindset, understanding business needs and collaboratively designing scalable systems and engineering solutions. Empathy and curiosity to build exceptional user experiences, operating in a loosely coupled but tightly aligned environment. Nice-to-Have Qualifications While not essential, the following skills and experiences will be a plus: Experience with Go or Kotlin in a production setting. Prior experience developing JetBrains or VS Code plugins. Experience designing or implementing UIs (web, IDE, mobile). Compensation and Benefits Our compensation structure is designed to reward talent and performance. The salary range for this role is $170,000 - $720,000, with a comprehensive benefits package that includes: Health plans and mental health support. 401(k) retirement plan with employer match.
