Position Overview

As a Senior Game Engine Tools & Pipeline Engineer at arenaflex, you will play a critical role in supporting and enhancing our development workflow across all disciplines. You will work closely with our Art, Design, and Engineering teams to identify workflow inefficiencies, pain points, and bottlenecks in our production process. Your mission will be to collaborate with team members to generate creative solutions, weigh trade-offs given project context and development timelines, implement selected solutions, and ensure successful adoption throughout the studio.

Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining, developing, and enhancing arenaflex's existing suite of engine-specific and custom tools that we use daily to bring our game visions to reality. This is a high-impact role where your work will directly multiply team productivity, improve overall crew performance, and help us continue delivering the high-quality games we're known for.

Key Responsibilities


Proactively identify inefficiencies and elaborate areas in our development pipeline across all disciplines, including art production, level design, character animation, audio integration, and quality assurance processes
Maintain, extend, and support our existing development tools, ensuring reliability, performance, and user-friendliness for all team members
Build and guide custom asset pipelines that streamline content creation, optimize workflows, and reduce manual overhead for our talented artists and designers
Grow arenaflex's proprietary libraries, tools, and technologies across multiple game engines and frameworks, creating scalable solutions that serve diverse development needs
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand their unique challenges, propose innovative solutions, and implement tools that address real-world production needs
Evaluate and select appropriate technical approaches considering project constraints, timelines, and long-term maintainability
Drive adoption of new tools and processes through documentation, training sessions, and ongoing support
Participate in code reviews and contribute to technical documentation ensuring knowledge sharing across the engineering team
Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence


Essential Qualifications


A strong passion for empowering others to do their best work, with a customer-service mindset toward internal stakeholders
Experience with the full software development lifecycle: identifying issues, analyzing potential solutions, implementing tools, and evaluating their effectiveness in production environments
Experience working with custom standalone tools and developing software solutions for specialized use cases
Experience developing tools that are utilized by multiple game development disciplines, including artists, designers, and engineers
Strong proficiency in C#, C++, and Python programming languages
Ability to work effectively in a self-directed, autonomous environment with minimal supervision
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively about technical challenges
Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical team members
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)


Preferred Qualifications


Experience with custom game engines and understanding of game development pipeline complexities
Proficiency with Unreal Engine or Unity development environments
Knowledge of JavaScript and .NET technologies for web-based tool development
Experience with asset management systems and version control workflows (Perforce, Git)
Background in game development or interactive entertainment industry
Understanding of 3D asset pipelines, including modeling, texturing, rigging, and animation workflows
Familiarity with build systems and continuous integration practices
Experience in technical documentation and creating user guides for non-technical audiences
