Our Information Stages Group, a section under the blithequark Entertainment and Innovation association, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer to join our Item Execution and Instrumentation Group. In this role, you will play a critical part in designing and building scalable data systems that provide essential business value and unlock capabilities across software and data disciplines. Job Overview As a Senior Data Engineer at blithequark, you will be responsible for contributing to the architecture, design, and development of our data products and data pipelines using Scala and Python/Spark. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and deliver effective data solutions that meet the needs of our business stakeholders. Your expertise in cloud-based data engineering and analytics will be essential in driving the success of our products and services. Key Responsibilities Contribute to the architecture, design, and development of our data products and data pipelines in Scala and Python/Spark while maintaining uptime SLAs. Design and develop scalable solutions, building ETL pipelines in big data environments (cloud, on-prem, hybrid). Implement the Lakehouse architecture, working with key partners to move towards a Lakehouse-driven data platform. Collaborate with Data Product Managers, Data Architects, and Data Scientists to design, implement, and deliver effective data solutions. Maintain detailed documentation of your work and changes to support data quality and data governance. Ensure high operational efficiency and quality of your solutions to meet SLAs and support commitment to our clients (Data Science, Data Analysis teams). Be an active participant and advocate of agile/scrum practice to ensure safety and process improvements for your team. Be a problem solver; when given new challenges, you are expected to research and coordinate to find solutions. Seek out answers to business problems and look for opportunities to automate processes and optimize cost. Engage with and understand our clients, forming relationships that allow us to understand and prioritize both innovative new offerings and consistent platform enhancements. Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need to have a strong technical background and excellent problem-solving skills. The following qualifications are essential: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent work experience. Solid algorithmic problem-solving ability. Solid SQL skills and ability to write queries to extract data and build performant datasets. Hands-on experience with distributed systems, such as Spark and PySpark, to query and process data. Solid key Scala and/or Python programming skills. Hands-on experience with cloud technologies like AWS (S3, EMR, EC2). Experience with at least one major MPP or cloud database technology (Ideally Snowflake, Redshift, Big Query). Strong experience with data integration toolsets (i.e., Windstream) and writing and maintaining data pipelines with Databricks. Experience in data modeling procedures and data warehousing standard approaches and practices. Familiarity with Scrum and Agile approaches. Demonstrated excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with others and build consensus in a cross-functional team towards an optimal outcome. Preferred Qualifications While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable: Experience working with large datasets and distributed computing environments. Knowledge of data governance and data quality best practices. Experience with machine learning and data science concepts. Strong understanding of cloud-based data engineering and analytics.
