We are now seeking an experienced and compassionate Residential Counselor to join our team in Citrus Heights, CA. About the Role: Residential Counselor As a Residential Counselor at Paradise Oaks Youth Services, you will play a vital role in the day-to-day operations of our facility, providing direct care and supervision to emotionally disturbed youth. You will be responsible for implementing our behavior modification program, monitoring youth schedules and activities, and maintaining accurate documentation regarding youth behaviors. Key Responsibilities: Provide direct supervision and observation of youth during all assigned activities, areas, and shifts, ensuring their safety and well-being. Supervise youth during routine hygiene, recreation, meals, visiting, and other daily and special events, providing guidance on etiquette and social skills. Monitor and follow daily youth schedules, ensuring that they adhere to our program's structure and guidelines. Apply appropriate disciplinary measures within agency program guidelines, intervening to correct maladaptive behaviors and modeling positive behaviors. Implement individual treatment plans as they relate to youth behaviors, working closely with our multidisciplinary team to achieve positive outcomes. Maintain accurate and detailed documentation, including point sheets, behavior logs, behavior contracts, monthly reports, and quarterly reports. Demonstrate a strong understanding of trauma-informed care principles, applying this knowledge to inform your practice and support the needs of our residents. Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor, contributing to the overall success of our program. Essential Qualifications: To be considered for this role, you must meet one of the following qualification criteria: Hold a Bachelor of Arts or Sciences degree. Possess a valid Child Development Teaching Permit. Have completed 12 semester units of Early Childhood Education, Adolescent Development, or Foster and Kinship Care Education, with at least 100 hours of experience working with youth. Hold a valid certificate as an Alcohol Counselor, Drug Counselor, or Alcohol and Drug Counselor, with at least 100 hours of experience working with youth. Possess a valid vocational training certificate, credential, or documentation demonstrating that you are a trade journeyperson who instructs youth in vocational skills, with at least 100 hours of experience working with youth. Have previously been employed as a full-time staff member or served as a volunteer at a group home, short-term residential therapeutic program, or substance abuse treatment program for at least one year. In addition to meeting one of the above qualification criteria, you must: Be at least 21 years of age. Possess a valid California Driver's License and meet agency requirements for driving a van. Be able to interrupt physical altercations, respond to injury and/or life-threatening crises, and demonstrate physical stamina to walk, run, climb, and lift 25 lbs. Successfully complete Pro-ACT certification within 3 months of employment. Preferred Qualifications: While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable: Previous experience working with emotionally disturbed youth in a residential care setting. Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles and practices. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with youth, colleagues, and other stakeholders. Ability to work flexibly, including weekends and evenings, to meet the needs of our program.
