Experienced Pre-Construction Manager, Transportation Engineering Services – Leading Infrastructure Development and Project Management

Introduction to Amazon and the Role Amazon, a global leader in e-commerce and innovation, is seeking an experienced Pre-Construction Manager to join its Transportation Engineering Services team. As a Pre-Construction Manager, you will play a critical role in managing facility network infrastructure development, including new builds, retrofits, expansions, and program initiatives from site selection through contract execution. Key Responsibilities and Expectations In this role, you will be responsible for leading project management, planning, design, and pre-construction projects, including new built-to-suit industrial buildings, tenant improvements, extensions of existing facilities, and renovation projects. Your key responsibilities will include: Independently managing cross-functional projects from site selection through design completion, permitting, and contract execution Collaborating with internal and external teams, including real estate, design engineering, entitlements, construction, finance, startup, architects, engineers, permitting agencies, developers, and landlords to drive delivery Representing project and technical information to various audiences and leading constructive dialogue to resolve project issues Overseeing professional service providers, performing pricing reviews, and negotiating the cost of work Conducting cost estimating, schedule tracking, and identifying and solving factors that may impede a successful permitted project hand-over to Amazon stakeholders Focusing on site selection, scope development, coordinating with design teams to develop site plans, and composite floor plans in compliance with design standards and operational requirements Preparing and presenting project status/risk reports and providing clear and concise summaries for projects under your ownership to leadership and management teams Understanding design and construction contracts, related exhibits, and providing detailed analysis and approvals of technical matters and site-specific deal structures Essential Qualifications and Skills To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications and skills: A completed Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a comparable field 5+ years of experience as an Architect, Engineer, Construction Manager, Development Manager, Owner's Representative, or other Development and Construction-related disciplines 5+ years of project management experience from design phase through implementation and operation 5+ years of experience negotiating construction, procurement, and labor contracts 2+ years of project/program management experience 2+ years of Canadian AHJ permitting experience Ability to travel up to 40% within assigned regions Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team Strong analytical and organizational skills, with attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks Preferred Qualifications and Skills While not essential, the following preferred qualifications and skills will be considered an asset: 2+ years of experience with permitting or code research in Canada An advanced degree, certification, or Master's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field Experience operating within at least two disciplines in the construction industry, such as General Contracting, Owner's Representation, Commercial Development, Engineering & Design, or similar Demonstrated capability in planning, design review, and implementation, project management/control of new structures, and the enhancement of existing facility buildings Experience managing multi-disciplinary design incorporating industrial automation, robotics, or similar Demonstrated success in communicating project requirements to various audiences, including senior management, peers, public officials, vendors, etc. Knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At Amazon, we are committed to providing our employees with opportunities for growth and development.
