Introduction to UCLA Extension and the Role UCLA Extension is one of the top institutions of its kind, offering over 4,500 classes and non-degree certificate programs to more than 35,000 students per year. The Writers' Program at UCLA Extension is seeking an experienced and passionate Podcasting Instructor to teach courses in narrative nonfiction, fiction, and other related topics. As a Podcasting Instructor, you will have the opportunity to share your knowledge and expertise with students from diverse backgrounds and help them develop their skills in podcasting. Key Responsibilities As a Podcasting Instructor at UCLA Extension, your key responsibilities will include: Developing or updating course syllabi to meet campus approval requirements in consultation with the UCLA Extension Program Director and Program Manager Imparting knowledge to students and leveraging additional resources to enhance the curriculum, such as arranging for guest speakers Designing interactive and motivational classroom activities to engage participants and reinforce student learning Implementing inclusive teaching strategies to engage learners from a variety of backgrounds, identities, abilities, and experience levels Updating course materials periodically and regularly monitoring course evaluations to make adjustments and improvements to the curriculum Utilizing Canvas as a course support platform in in-person courses and as the delivery platform in online and hybrid courses Posting final student grades to the transcript system in a timely manner and responding to student questions and learning needs Communicating with the Program Director and Program Staff in a timely manner and completing required administrative tasks Essential Qualifications To be considered for this role, you must have: At least one significant, produced, widely available credit in podcasting or a related field Commitment to the highest level of academic standards and integrity Current knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in the subject area of podcasting Highly effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to convey conceptual and complex ideas and information Outstanding interpersonal skills and high emotional intelligence Proficiency in or willingness to learn the use of instructional technology and online teaching tools Preferred Qualifications Preferred qualifications for this role include: College-level and/or continuing education teaching experience Experience designing curriculum and measuring student performance Produced credits and teaching/public speaking/seminar experience in podcasting or a related field Skills and Competencies To be successful in this role, you will need to possess: Strong knowledge of podcasting principles, practices, and technologies Excellent teaching and communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and identities Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and complete tasks in a timely manner Ability to use instructional technology and online teaching tools, such as Canvas and Zoom Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits As a Podcasting Instructor at UCLA Extension, you will have opportunities for career growth and professional development, including: Participating in required orientations and instructor training programs Assisting in occasional program activities, such as competition/scholarship judging, guest lecturing, and community events Staying current regarding the professional body of knowledge in the field of podcasting and related areas Networking with other instructors and professionals in the field Work Environment and Company Culture UCLA Extension is committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for students, staff, and instructors.
