About the Role As a Physical Security Engineer at AWS, you'll play a critical role in designing and implementing secure data center facilities across our Americas region. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams, including security experts, architects, and stakeholders to develop and execute security plans that meet the highest standards of safety and compliance. Your expertise will help shape the security posture of our data centers and drive the adoption of best practices across the organization. Key Responsibilities Lead the development of physical security designs (drawings and details) for data center projects, including cameras, access control, intrusion detection, fencing, and gates. Collaborate with other security teams within AWS to establish design standards, assess cost, risk, and benefits of designs, and facilitate design discussions. Communicate design plans to internal partners and external contractors, ensuring seamless execution and compliance. Participate in design reviews, model coordination, and construction detailing for physical security components. Create security scope of work for design RFPs and review deliverables from physical security design subject matter experts. Manage multiple fast-paced projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines. Travel to site assessments, internal design meetings, construction reviews, and meetings with design contractors (up to 25% of the time). Essential Qualifications To succeed in this role, you'll need: A bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field (e.g., electrical, mechanical, or security engineering) or equivalent experience. 3+ years of physical security design experience, preferably in data center or similar critical infrastructure projects. Strong understanding of physical security principles, practices, and standards, including Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED). Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications To stand out as a candidate, you'll ideally have: A professional engineering license. Physical Security Professional (PSP) certification. CPTED certification. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and MS Office Suite. Knowledge of building codes, regulations, and standards, including IBC and IFC. Vendor and contractor management experience.
