About the Role The Substance Experience Conveyance group is a critical part of Disney Streaming, focusing on building scalable frameworks that provide data across various Disney Streaming platforms. As a Manager of Software Engineering, you will be instrumental in assembling a high-performing team of engineers and driving the development of key services and infrastructure that enhance customer experiences globally. Your role will involve close collaboration with partners, product managers, and engineers to prioritize work, set goals, and deliver exceptional results. Key Responsibilities Building and Leading a Diverse Engineering Team: You'll be responsible for the training, career development, mentoring, and process improvement within your team, ensuring a culture of ownership and excellence. Ownership and Technical Vision: You'll own the technical vision for applications and services, working closely with product managers and stakeholders to align engineering efforts with business objectives. Collaboration and Goal Setting: You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to prioritize work and set goals that drive the delivery of high-quality customer experiences. Refining Engineering Practices: You'll be tasked with refining engineering practices and maintaining operational excellence, ensuring that the team stays up-to-date with the latest technologies and methodologies. Adaptability and Innovation: You'll need to be able to move quickly and adapt to the changing needs of the product, fostering an environment that encourages innovation and the adoption of new technologies. Essential Qualifications Engineering Leadership Experience: 4+ years of experience in engineering management, with a proven track record of leading high-performing teams. Software Engineering Experience: 4+ years of experience in software engineering, with strong programming skills in an object-oriented language. Team Building and Management: Experience in attracting diverse talent, building, and driving teams to achieve exceptional results. Technical Skills: Strong handle on computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, databases, and software design patterns. Event-Driven Systems: Experience with event-driven systems models, preferably with reactive design. Cloud Infrastructure: Practical knowledge and experience in deploying web services in cloud infrastructure, with a preference for AWS. Testing and TDD: Experience with writing unit tests and implementing test-driven development processes. Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Programming, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience. Preferred Qualifications Reactive Programming: Deep experience in reactive programming on JVM languages, preferably Java. Observability Systems: Hands-on experience as a support manager with experience creating and managing observability systems. AWS and IAC: Hands-on experience managing AWS services with specific experience using Terraform or other IAC tools. NoSQL Data Stores: Experience with distributed NoSQL data stores like DynamoDB, Cassandra, Scylla, and Couchbase. Global Team Experience: Experience working with remote global teams and an adaptable schedule across different time zones.
