Join Our Team: Empowering Youth through Education and Literacy Hennepin County Library is seeking passionate and experienced Lead Tutors to manage and deliver high-quality afterschool tutoring programs for K-12 students and reading support for K-5 students. As a Lead Tutor, you will play a vital role in providing academic and social support to students, overseeing program activities, and mentoring volunteer tutors. About Hennepin County Library and the Role Hennepin County Library is a dynamic and inclusive organization that strives to nourish minds, transform lives, and build community together. Our afterschool tutoring programs, Homework Help and Let's Read, are designed to provide students with one-on-one and small group support in understanding and completing their learning tasks. As a Lead Tutor, you will be responsible for directing the daily operation of these programs, establishing program routines, and providing orientation, coaching, and training to volunteer tutors. Key Responsibilities Manage the delivery of Homework Help and Let's Read programs, ensuring high-quality academic and social support for students. Oversee day-to-day program activities, including program space and routines. Provide orientation, coaching, and training to volunteer tutors, promoting best practices in tutoring and academic skill building. Support library community engagement and outreach efforts, fostering partnerships with local organizations and families. Collect and report program data, including attendance, reading assessments, participant surveys, and family engagement activities. Promote library resources and services to students, families, and volunteers, supporting student academic success. Participate in required meetings and training sessions, staying up-to-date on program developments and best practices. Essential Qualifications To be considered for this role, you must meet one of the following requirements: Two years or more of full-time equivalent office clerical experience. Completion of two years or more of post-high school education. 18 months or more of office clerical experience and completion of the Office Specialist Pathway Training. One year or more of office clerical experience and completion of the Human Services Pathway Training. Education may be substituted for experience on a month-for-month basis (3 semester credits = 1 month). Preferred Qualifications and Skills We are looking for candidates with the following preferred qualifications and skills: Experience leading a youth program or working with youth in a volunteer setting. Tutoring experience in subjects such as math, language arts, and science. Familiarity with Hennepin County programs and services. Ability to work with multiple audiences, including children, families, volunteers, and staff members with diverse cultural backgrounds. Strong knowledge of literacy and mathematical concepts, as well as best practices in tutoring and academic skill building. Excellent organizational and communication skills. Basic computer skills, including the ability to navigate online systems and email. Fluency in Somali and Spanish (in addition to English) is highly desirable, as bilingual candidates may qualify for additional bilingual pay and duties. Compensation and Benefits The hourly rate for this role is $23.00, with a salary range of $21-$26.77 per hour. As a Hennepin County employee, you will be eligible for a range of benefits, including paid time off, health insurance, and retirement savings.
