About the Role: Instructional Assistant I The Instructional Assistant I is a vital member of our educational team, working closely with teachers to provide individualized and small-group instruction, monitor student progress, and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment. This role requires a strong foundation in instructional support, excellent communication skills, and a passion for making a positive impact on students' lives. Key Responsibilities Tutor individuals or small groups of students, reinforcing and implementing instruction as directed by the teacher. Maintain accurate records of student progress, including test scores and behavioral observations. Participate as a valued member of an instructional team, including remediation teams, to ensure cohesive and effective teaching practices. Prepare and organize lessons as directed by the teacher, administer and score tests according to established guidelines, and assist in determining English proficiency of identified students. Assist in administering diagnostic and other tests, score and record test information, and provide feedback to teachers. Monitor and report student behavior according to approved procedures, ensuring a safe and respectful classroom environment. Perform routine clerical duties, such as preparing instructional materials, operating copy machines, maintaining classroom records, and tracking attendance. Provide technical support to the teacher by setting up work areas, displays, and exhibits, operating audio-visual equipment, and distributing and collecting materials. Assist in overseeing students during lab activities, ensure supplies are inventoried, and maintain a organized and efficient learning space. Offer emotional support, guidance, and positive reinforcement to students, promoting a supportive and inclusive classroom culture. Collaborate with teachers to identify and address student needs, develop strategies for improvement, and implement targeted interventions. Communicate with parents regarding student progress, absences, and other relevant matters, and make home visits as necessary. Ensure the health and safety of students by adhering to established practices and regulations, and participate in emergency drills and other safety procedures. Direct group activities, assist in monitoring lunchroom and playground activities, and support the teacher during assemblies, play periods, and field trips. Participate in meetings, in-service training programs, and other professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge. Essential Qualifications To succeed in this role, you'll need: A high school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework or an associate's degree preferred. Experience working with children, either through volunteering, babysitting, or previous employment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and parents. Basic knowledge of instructional principles and practices, including lesson planning and classroom management. Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise discretion, and demonstrate a commitment to professionalism. Flexibility and adaptability, with a willingness to learn and adjust to changing circumstances. Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications will be considered a plus: Previous experience as an Instructional Assistant or in a related educational role. Knowledge of special education principles and practices, including working with students with diverse needs. Familiarity with educational technology, including learning management systems and educational software. First aid and CPR certification. Bilingual or multilingual skills. Emotional intelligence and empathy : The ability to understand and respond to the emotional needs of students, providing support and guidance as needed.
