Job Overview We are seeking an experienced Inpatient Coder II to join our team of healthcare professionals. As an Inpatient Coder II, you will play a critical role in our Health Information Management department, utilizing your technical coding expertise to assign accurate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes to complex inpatient acute care discharges. This is a full-time, remote opportunity with a competitive salary and benefits package, including a sign-on bonus. Key Responsibilities Utilize technical coding expertise to assign appropriate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes to complex inpatient visit types, with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail. Collaborate with the Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) department to ensure accurate and complete documentation, and to educate CDI staff on regulatory guidelines, Coding Clinics, and conventions. Review and analyze health record documentation to determine the Principal Diagnosis, secondary diagnoses, and procedures, using knowledge of anatomy, physiology, clinical disease process, pharmacology, and medical terminology. Utilize resources within Computerized Assisted Coding (CAC) software to efficiently review documentation and select or assign ICD-10-CM/PCS codes using autosuggestion or annotation features. Meet established coding productivity and quality standards, and participate in quality improvement initiatives to ensure continuous improvement in coding practices. Essential Qualifications 3 years of inpatient coding experience in an acute healthcare setting. RHIA, RHIT, or CCS credential. AHIMA membership. Strong foundation in coding conventions, instructions, Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting, and Coding Clinics. Deep understanding of disease process, anatomy/physiology, pharmacology, and medical terminology. Preferred Qualifications Associate's degree in a related field. RHIA, RHIT with CCS or CDIP/CCDS credential. 4 years of inpatient coding experience in a teaching hospital. Experience with CAC software and electronic health records.
