Our Big Data Analyst role is a unique opportunity to join our Data Science, AI, and Machine Learning teams and play a critical part in driving business outcomes through data-driven insights. About the Role As a Big Data Analyst at Southwest Airlines, you'll serve as a mid-level internal consultant, responsible for leading the end-to-end life cycle of data management across various platforms, volumes, variety, and velocity of data. Your primary goal will be to understand complex business issues and translate business results into data needs. You'll work closely with stakeholders to design, implement, and maintain data models, drive data integration projects, and perform in-depth data analysis. Key Responsibilities * Drive complex self-service data integration projects that unite data from dissimilar sources to make it accessible to business clients like data scientists, experts, and analytical users. * Lead informal teams to apply advanced data integration methodologies and tools to large datasets to create solutions that can be used in descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics. * Facilitate communication with functional leaders across multiple and simultaneous projects. * Define and communicate solutions and decisions to stakeholders. * Serve as an informed authority for data assets and monitor the ongoing viability of data assets being used by business clients in self-service environments. * Support the continuous advancement of the Southwest Airlines data science center and community. * May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Managers. Requirements and Qualifications * **Education:** Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related discipline). * **Experience:** Intermediate knowledge and experience in data analysis, data modeling, and data management (at least 2-3 years of experience in a related role). * **Skills and Competencies:** * Intermediate knowledge of both inductive and deductive reasoning and problem-solving approaches. * Transitional knowledge in assessing and applying suitable data analysis and statistical methods for a business issue. * Transitional knowledge of acquiring and consuming data in both social and non-SQL databases. * Intermediate knowledge in integrating, storing, and processing large amounts of data necessary for analysis and modeling. * Proficient in at least one data programming language and open-source tools. * Proficient in at least one data integration and business intelligence tool. * Proficient in technology platforms and models relevant to creating and maintaining self-service data assets. * Skilled in decision-making and project management abilities. * Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner with both technical and non-technical audiences.
