Job Overview We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Sr. Gear Engineer to join our team at blithequark. As a Sr. Gear Engineer, you will play a critical role in supporting our cross-disciplinary teams, identifying areas for improvement, and developing custom tools and solutions to enhance our game development process. Your expertise will be instrumental in empowering our teams to work more efficiently, effectively, and creatively, ultimately contributing to the creation of high-quality games that exceed our players' expectations. Key Responsibilities Collaborate with our Art, Design, and Engineering teams to identify workflow inefficiencies, pain points, and challenges in our development process, and develop candidate solutions to address these issues. Work closely with the team to weigh tradeoffs, given the problem context and development timeline, and implement the selected solution, ensuring seamless adoption by the team. Maintain, extend, and support blithequark's existing set of engine-specific and custom tools, ensuring they remain effective and efficient. Design and guide the development of custom asset pipelines, streamlining our content creation process and improving overall productivity. Contribute to the growth of blithequark's proprietary libraries, tools, and technologies across game engines and platforms, staying up-to-date with industry trends and best practices. Essential Qualifications To succeed in this role, you should possess a strong passion for empowering others to do their best work, as well as experience with the overall tool lifecycle, including identifying issues, comparing potential solutions, implementing tools, and evaluating their effectiveness. You should be comfortable working with custom standalone tools and enjoy developing gear that can be utilized by multiple game development disciplines. Proficiency in programming languages such as C#, C++, and Python is also essential, as well as the ability to work effectively in a self-directed environment. Preferred Qualifications While not required, experience with custom game engines, as well as familiarity with Unreal or Unity, would be highly beneficial in this role. Additionally, knowledge of JavaScript and web technologies would be an asset, as would experience with developing tools and technologies that can be used across multiple game development disciplines.
