Experienced Data Engineer for Content Strategy and Development - Streaming Entertainment Industry

About the Content Data Engineering Team
The Content Data Engineering team plays a vital role in shaping our content strategy by developing scaled data products that provide a shared understanding of content metadata and performance across the company. As a Data Engineer on this team, you will have the opportunity to work closely with Data Science and Analytics teams, Finance and Strategy teams, and other stakeholders to drive informed decision-making and business growth.
Key Responsibilities
Analyze and understand the business: Become a subject matter expert in the streaming space, with a deep understanding of content deal structures, performance patterns, and the impact of acquisition and churn on financial outcomes.
Scale your understanding through robust data products: Build data models that reflect your domain expertise, meet current business needs, and remain flexible as our strategy evolves.
Treat the company as your customer: Analyze stakeholder consumption of your data and iterate on design to improve their experience.
Focus on key areas: Manage robust content metadata, scale measurement of business value and member satisfaction driven by our content, and innovate on data models and metrics for new business areas (e.g., live, ads, etc.).
What You Bring to the Table
Big Picture Strengths
Skill, appreciation, and patience for building detailed and performant data models and pipelines.
Stakeholder empathy and curiosity, with a willingness to learn the nuances of your partners' domain (e.g., amortization logic from accounting, ML model foundations from data science, quarterly earnings from FP&A).
Strong communication skills, with the ability to calibrate the level of detail in your presentations to your audience while maintaining accuracy and impact.
Willingness to work in a fast-paced, demanding, and nebulous environment, with a love for freedom and a dislike for micromanagement.
Technical Strengths
Fluency in SQL, Python, distributed processing (e.g., Spark, Flink), and orchestration frameworks.
Experience sourcing and modeling data from application APIs.
Comfort with MPP/Cloud data warehouse solutions (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, Vertica, etc.).

At Netflix, we offer a unique compensation structure that consists solely of an annual salary, with no bonuses. You have the flexibility to choose how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options each year. We rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range, which for this role is $170,000 - $720,000.
