Job Overview We are seeking an experienced and skilled Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Cybersecurity to join our Department of Mathematics and Computer Sciences. The successful candidate will have a strong background in teaching and professional experience in computer science, cybersecurity, and related fields. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of new courses in video game development and programming, and to teach undergraduate and graduate levels of computer science and cybersecurity classes. Key Responsibilities Teach undergraduate and graduate levels of computer science and cybersecurity classes, including programming, database, computer systems, and data security Develop new courses in video game development and programming, and other areas of computer science and cybersecurity Mentor and support students from diverse backgrounds, including underrepresented groups in STEM fields Contribute to the development of the computer science and cybersecurity curriculum, and participate in departmental and college-wide initiatives Engage in scholarly activities, including research and publication, and participate in professional development opportunities Essential Qualifications To be considered for this position, candidates must have: A Ph.D. in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Computer Information Systems, or a closely related discipline by the appointment date Professional and/or teaching experience in C++, C#, JavaScript, and Python, game engines such as Unreal and Unity, and 2D and 3D digital animation such as Maya or Blender Experience in developing for mobile and web platforms, and/or for applications outside of gaming such as VR A strong commitment to inclusive pedagogies and mentoring underrepresented students in STEM fields Excellent teaching, communication, and interpersonal skills Preferred Qualifications Preferred candidates will have: Experience in teaching and developing courses in computer science and cybersecurity A strong research background and publication record in computer science and cybersecurity Experience in working with diverse student populations, including underrepresented groups in STEM fields Knowledge of industry trends and developments in computer science and cybersecurity Experience in developing and teaching online courses Skills and Competencies The successful candidate will have: Strong technical skills in computer science and cybersecurity, including programming languages, data structures, and software engineering Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities Strong commitment to academic excellence and student success Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At Mercy College, we are committed to providing our faculty with opportunities for professional development and growth.
