Title: Head of Metadata Librarian Agency: Northern VA Community College Location: Fairfax County - 059 FLSA: Exempt Hiring Range: Hiring Range is $80,586 to $94,000. The starting salary is commensurate based on experience, education and other credentials appropriately related to the position within the specified hiring range. Full Time or Part Time: Full Time Additional Detail Job Description: General Description: The Head of Metadata Librarian manages all aspects of cataloging operations, including supervising cataloging Library Specialists and liaising with NOVA Libraries staff to ensure excellent cataloging services are provided. The Head of Metadata contributes to efficient collection management of library resources including metadata enhancements, authority control, inventory control, batch loading of new electronic books, creating analytics reports, and acquisitions workflow within the LMS. Works with the Procurement Office to manage budgets in Alma Acquisitions and reconcile orders when received. Creates reports around budgeting and trends. Duties and Tasks: β€’ Manages cataloging operations. β€’ Supports library-wide systems initiatives related to improving the library services platform (Alma), search and discovery service (Primo), and marketplace options. β€’ Supervises and trains cataloging Library Specialists responsible for copy cataloging. β€’ Responsible for original and complex copy cataloging. β€’ Contributes to efficient library-wide collection management of library resources, including inventory control, metadata quality control, authority control, and creating analytics reports. β€’ Supports frequent improvements to the library services platform and library online catalog. β€’ Supports acquisitions including receiving, processing, and reconciling library collections materials (Alma Acquisitions) Employees must reside in Virginia, Maryland, or the District of Columbia. Minimum Qualifications: KSAs: β€’ Practical and theoretical knowledge of a broad range of cataloging standards including Resource Description and Access (RDA), FRBR, Linked Data, Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH), Library of Congress Classification (LCC) β€’ Practical knowledge of MARC metadata standard. β€’ Experience using library service platforms and OCLC Record Manager. β€’ Expertise in collection management including inventory control, metadata quality control, authority control, and creating analytics reports. β€’ Proficiency with spreadsheet and/or database software required, preferably Microsoft Excel. β€’ Experience in supervision and training of cataloging staff. β€’ Experience in developing and managing cataloging workflows. β€’ Excellent communication and analytic skills, including the ability to work well in a team-based environment. β€’ Excellent organizational and project management skills. β€’ Knowledge of both electronic and print library acquisitions workflows. Required Qualifications: β€’ Master’s degree in Library Science or Library & Information Science awarded by a regionally accredited institution. β€’ Experience in cataloging. β€’ Supervisory experience. β€’ Experience with library management systems. Additional Considerations: Additional Considerations: β€’ Experience with Ex Libris Alma and Primo. β€’ Knowledge of both electronic and print library acquisitions workflows. β€’ Aptitude for learning new technologies and metadata standards. β€’ Awareness of new trends, emerging technologies, and critical issues in cataloging and technical services. β€’ Knowledge of automation technologies commonly used in Library Technical Services (e.g. APIs, EDI, etc.). β€’ Master's degree in Library Science or Library & Information Science awarded by an ALA accredited institution.
