Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated 1st Grade Dual Language Teacher to join our team at Woodland Elementary School. As a bilingual education specialist, you will play a vital role in providing a structured and individualized educational classroom environment that meets the needs of limited English speaking students. You will be responsible for implementing a comprehensive curriculum that includes Response to Intervention (RtI) and Common Core State Standards, as well as developing and maintaining positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community.

Key Responsibilities

Provide a TPE structured, individualized, educational classroom environment to meet the needs of limited English speaking students
Implement authentic assessments such as portfolios to evaluate student achievement
Develop and implement daily lesson plans that are organized and educational, and that meet the needs of students with varying learning styles and abilities
Collaborate with staff and paraprofessionals to meet the needs of students with special needs
Communicate regularly with parents and school personnel regarding students' levels and rates of progress
Participate in team, department, faculty meetings, and professional development to stay current on best practices in Dual Language education
Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as may be assigned by the School Principal or Assistant Principal


Essential Qualifications

Illinois Professional Educator or Transitional Bilingual Educator License valid for Grades 1-3 with Spanish Bilingual approval or endorsement
English as a Second Language Endorsement
Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and/or Bilingual Education
Teaching or student teaching experience, preferably in an elementary school and/or bilingual classroom(s)


Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Response to Intervention (RtI) and Common Core State Standards
Knowledge of digital environments, including Chromebooks, databases, spreadsheets, publishing software, Microsoft Office, and Google applications
Strong organization, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community
Empathetic, humanistic, and open-minded, with a strong sense of teamwork and a willingness to adapt to changing circumstances

Planning and preparation: ability to demonstrate knowledge of content and pedagogy, students, and resources, and to design coherent instruction and select appropriate instructional activities
Classroom environment: ability to create an environment of respect and rapport, establish a culture for learning, manage classroom procedures, manage students' behavior, and organize physical space
Instruction: ability to communicate clearly and accurately, use questioning and discussion techniques, engage students in learning, provide feedback to students, and demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness
Professional responsibility: ability to reflect on teaching, maintain accurate records, communicate professionally, contribute to the school and district, grow and develop professionally, and show professionalism
